Could be 5 years and more, can't be 6 years unless you were on the original beta testing or development team. EV was released in April 1996.

And you are much younger than dirt 🙂

    • Maybe it was 4 or 5 years. High School was all a blur anyways 🙂

I'm guessing it was closer to 4, because I remember you joining after I had been in the community for a while. I'm guessing I joined in mid- to late-96.

When I became a regular on the EV boards was when I had a home internet connection (not when I first started playing), which was in the summer of 99. Before that time I played EV at school and at home and went to the site (not at home) once every month or so...

Now that I think about it, I''ve been playing atleast more than 4 1/2 years. Damn, time flies...

    • I first touched EV sometime in the latter half of 1997, and started coming to the forums a month or two after Override came out (early 1998). I was introduced to both via MacAddict.

So I suppose I've been around roughly 5 years, give or take a few months. Nothing compared to folks like EVula, but still up there.

    • I'm (xxxxxxx), and have played EV since sometime in '97. It came on an A-10 Attack CD which had a number of demos and Ambrosia Products on it as well.

    • I am Oskar, 15 years of age at the moment, and I have been playing Escape Velocity since 1997 or 1998. (edit) I got the game from a MacWorld- or MacMagazine-CD. (edit)

At first, I did not get the hang of it, hence I edited it to the limit, with ResEdit. I got a bit bored and stopped playing it. But sometime in 2000/2001, I began playing it again. Now I am awaiting the arrival of Nova.

      There's my life story. 😛 😉

On a more serious note, I'd like to thank everyone who participated in this little experiment. I've got enough to work with here. Perhaps I'll even whip up a quick page with some EV Community statistics available on it.

And from the looks of it, we really should start an EV-Addicts support group or something. Some of us seriously need to regain our self esteem. Repeat after me: Playing a nearly-6-year-old game made exclusively for an unpopular computer platform is NOT a bad thing.

    • Hi, I'm Chris, I'm 18 and I've been playing EV since 1.0.1 came out years ago. I remember when I got 1.0.2 but found it took 4 times longer to load up on my 630 than 1.0.1, so i went and made a cup of tea when i started it up.
Incidently, although I've played EVN a lot, I re-started playing EV this week. And it felt good. The graphics are simple, and so is the story - but somehow, even though there isn't a large novel's worth of writing, the whole thing seems more believable. And the rebels are much cooler and - in the end - seem a lot more righteous and honorable than their EV:N counterparts. I still love it after all these years. And one more thing...
The destroyer in EV:N isn't fit to live up to the name. It may be a dedicated warship in nova, but it still can't beat that upgraded argosy with a new paintscheme. Years later, and its still the best. They just don't design and make 'em like they used to.
      Still... back to my Corvette.

    • Im Kurt, I'm 22, and I found EV sometime in 1997 on some compilation cd of "the best mac games" that my brother aquired. I fondly remember EV 1.0.2......

    • Been playing since i got a gaming megapac CD from the mail, that included escape velocity as well as many other ambrosia titles such as aperion. Been playing it since it first came out on the same comp.

    • I can't believe I'm about to admit this...
My name is J.R. Cortez (Hi, J.R.!!), and I've been a Velocoholic since I bought my first
Mac, a brand new Performa 6320, waaaay back in '96. I started playing EV a few months later. What's difficult in admiting is that...
I am 48 years old! EV was probably my first computer game (besides Pong!) to really grab my interest, not including arcade games like Stargate, Missile Command, etc. But, it's not hard to see that when a great game like EV comes around, or great plugs like Pale, EVGE, Galactic Scourge, Dark Horizons, etc., are created, that they capture your imagination like a good science fiction book or movie. I also remember talking to the "Old Ones", like The Old Professor, Pale's creator (I can't remember his name), and sharing a lot of likes and ideas about EV and its plugs.
I can see, however, now that Nova has been released, this board may one day be closed down. A little sad, really...
So remember, "you're never too old to rock and roll!", or play Escape Velocity!

    • Hi my name is RC and I'm 14yrs old, I'm not really an "Velocoholic" but I still feel that there are unresolved issues with the game. I've been playing since 87-88 and still once a year get sudden urges to replay the game compleatly.

It's not denial! I'm just selective about the reality I choose to accept! 🙂

    • I started work on a time machine, and I almost had it, but then I got side-tracked destroying the alien menace, and then I got my rebel cruiser... well, I just lost interest in the whole time-machine project. If I wasn't so busy playing Nova now, then I'd go back to it. Ah well... who needs time travel anyway...
