    • I can't just say one or the other because I use both quite often.(it depends what you have to destroy) When I'm in my RebCruiser I use 6 proton turrets when faced with a foe. But hey, I'll vote for the minority. Missles.

    • Actually, it depends. If you're a small ship hitting on bigger ones, you want torps. If you're a bigger ship trying to fight off 10 fighters simultaneously, the Missiles will get the job done quicker.

The primaries in original EV aren't strong enough...this would be my weapon set up for New Horizons (on an old Rebel Destroyer (J00 Fe4R +EH R38El D35+r0yer! :D)):

3 Accurate anti-fighter turrets. (I like Energy Lances more than A/M Turrets)
4 Forward Firing secondary guns. (Atomic Blasters all the way!)
2 C-Missile launchers, about 30-40 missiles. (long range, good guidance)
And a set up of if everything goes to hell weapon , your usual ridiculously overpowered plugin weapon. (in this case, its those guided javelin thingies with the impossible firing rate  )
      Missile Jammer
Mass Expansions down to 20< cargo.
      IFF

So, that's my favourite weapon setup. 🙂

    • Missiles :).
Cheaper, lighter, and if they're going to hit they hit pretty quickly, rather than orbiting the system for several minutes first. But I prefer 2 Javelin Pods and 999 Javelin Rockets to either of the ones in question - definitely weightwise you can't beat them, and I don't like long-range battles.

    • I don't use either. I load my Rebel Cruiser with 4 prton turrets, 5 proton cannons, 2 lasers, armor, shields, fuel stuff, etc., etc. But, if I absolutely had to choose, torpedoes are much better.

Actually, in a smaller ship, you want Missiles, because they take up less space. Loading a Scoutship with 3 Lasers and 10 Missiles allows you to take any pirate ship up to and including a Corvette with ease (assumes ECM), and possibly even a Kestrel, though it would be tough. In large ships though, you'll want more Torpedoes, but Missiles are still useful on fighter packs, and can be thrown at Capital ships if you run out of Torpedoes and enemy fighters. Missiles versatility makes them overall a better weapon.

    • Mac has a good point. For ships like the manta, you'd be lucky to even cram a torpedo launcher into the thing. Missile launchers are much smaller in mass, and more convenient for smaller vessels. The ammo, however, is a bit more expensive...

Yeah, and when you're in a ship that small, it'd be tough to earn that kind of money without doing something illegal.

Exactly. This is another reason why torpedoes are heavilly favored over missiles.

    • Expense of the ammunition isn't much of a factor. If I can take down a Corvette with nine Missiles (about 30,000) and then steal 90,000-100,000 from it, I'm way ahead on money. Pirate Corvettes, I might add. I sometimes use a couple to help against Argosies, so that's 6,000 or so, but then I can turn around and pirate 20,000-25,000 from it. On the Scoutship, the main thing I'm referring to since after that I skip to the Corvette (which is still better suited to hold Missiles than Torpedoes for the most part), I can get a full load of ten Missiles plus a Launcher for less than two Rush deliveries. The cost is just insignificant, especially compared to the money making power of pirating from pirates.

As I emphasized before, price does become a factor with the smaller vessels who have yet to establish financial security in the EV universe.
