Which do you prefer? The missile is faster and harder to shake, but the torpedo lasts a lot longer and does much more damage. I vote for the torpedo.

Uhm, what? Good pilots often use long range attacks against ships with higher shields than they, because a turret battle is futile in many cases. Particle beam weapons? What do you mean? There is one Particle beam in the game and its... crap.

??? The alien fusion beams arent the same as the particle beam. Also, those aren't available to you in the game (unless you cheat) so they are not usually standard weapons that would be used as opposed to long range weaponary.

Hahah. There is a difference between coward and ingenius tactician, freind. If I am in a Rapier, or Corvette, and need to eliminate a Confed Cruiser, I cannot just broadside him with my proton turrets. I must first weaken him from afar with torps and then move in for the kill. In many cases, close combat is not logical.

Well, it depends. On ships with smaller weapon space such as fighters I use missiles due to the fact that the launchers are less than half the size. On capital warships I prefer torps because they're cheaper and have a higher hitting power (Their slower speed doesn't matter so much when you're only using them against Confed Cruisers 
). Since I'm much more likely to be using a capital warship rather than a fighter my vote would have to go with torps.

This poll is a rather common one, and the torpedo almost always wins. Give it one vote for me.
Of course when it comes down to it a lot of pilots just shed their ranged armament and max out the turrets/guns. This is what I do.

Really? You use guns? I don't use guns in standard ev at all. Sometimes I do in plugins because I need them to fight the more powerful ships common in plugins. Is this really a common poll? I havn't seen it, but then again i've only been here a few weeks. I was surprised that torps always win... I would thing some people would say missiles because they are much much more effective on small ships like defenders and stuff.

Yes, it is fairly common, though the last one was befoe you joined us, started by yours truly, in fact. I believe Missiles won that one. It's perfectly obvious why, they're a much better weapon. I can't imagine why they're losing this poll.
P.S. If you haven't figured this out, I vote for missiles.

if i had to use a ranged weapon, i would have to choose missiles. they may not be as powerful, put theyre harder to shake and theyre faster.
btw, i hate using long ranged weapons. especially the forklift. long range weapons are so cowardly. LONG LIVE REBEL CRUISERS WITH A LOT OF PROTONS!!!!!
