    • Compiling Problems


      I created a game - fairly complex but every time I compile it and then run the compiled game two things happen. First, it doesn't compile the sound and music files and second, I get the warning box stating this game was made with an unregisitered copy of Coldstone which is bogus. Anyone have any suggestions. I have contacted both Ambrosia and Beenox and they haven't provided any answers to why this is happening or things to try.

      I have gone so far as creating a new game, reentering my globals and then copying over my maps, picts, events, sound, and music all with no luck.

    • So you have registered Coldstone and entered the code? If so, you could try deleting the preferences, and re-entering the code...although you might have to get a new code.

      And you said you emailed ASW and Beenox about it?

    • Hello Squak, can you provide us with a bit more information? I'm kind of confused by your post.

      First, can you run the game that you compiled, albeit without sound? Or will it not run at all?

      Second, what operating system are you using and compiling it under?

      Third, there is no third question. First two shall suffice. ๐Ÿ™‚

      I don't have a clue on what could cause this. You are the only one who reported such a behaviour from Coldstone. I've looked into this but still haven't found anything (but I'll keep looking). Hopefully, I'll narrow it before the next update.

      Question One - yes I can run the game once compiled without sound - if I copy the sound and music files over manually the sound then works
      Also - if I try to complie a windows version the game will not run on a windows machine.

      Question Two - OS 9.1 on a mac 8500 120 with a 400 mhz g3 upgrade card with 128 megs of ram

      Yes, I registered coldstone and have recieved three codes from Ambrosia. What you suggested was one of the first things I tried. - I have also rebuilt the config file( reenter all the globals and such, copied over the rest of the game data and still no luck.)

      Dee, would you like me to send you a uncompiled version of the game? I offered this to Ambrosia but with no response. I can burn it to a CD and then mail it to you.

    • I have a very similar problem. I get the message about an unregistered version (also not tru in my case), and although the game seems to work fine so far on my machine, when I try to run it on a windows machine, it says it can't find the Dat001.dat file (I think that's the exact name). I don't see one myself. Should there be a file with this name somewhere?

      Also, in reference to no one else having the problem, its possible that a very small percentage of people have tried to acutally compile their games yet.

      I am using OS9.1 on a G3 iMac (old kind)

      Please send Dee Brown "deebrown@beenox.com" and David Dunham "david@AmbrosiaSW.com" an email stating that you are having this problem also.

      I get the same error when I try to run a compiled windows version also - I also get a dll error sometimes depending on what operating system I run the game on.

    • I sent an e-mail, help would be greatly appreciated. Also, I am developing a game which MUST be able to run on Windows98 specifically, and if this isn't made possible within a relatively soon window, I will have a bit of a problem. I think the problem is that I don't get a data file when I compile.

      There are known issues with coldstone created games running on Windows platforms. I'm not sure if the issue you have mentioned is one of the known ones(hence why you should send the email to help@ambrosiasw.com with an informative subject heading like: Coldstone bug - missing dat001 file on windows machines" so that the correct people can be notified of the problem). I do know that a patch has been created and is being tested by the beta testers, and that some windows-related problems were supposed to be addressed in it. However since I am not on the beta team I can't say for sure(and if I were on the team, I couldn't say. hehe). So hopefully this bug is known and corrected in the patch which will come out when it is done(don't ask when; they won't say other than "when it is done.").

      I know this doesn't help, but thats about all I can give you at this point. Send in a bug report while you wait. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Well, that's all good to know anyway, thanx. But I would still like to know if I should be getting a data file when I compile, and if THAT in particular is a problem being adressed, if anyone knows.

      Also, if I cannot compile for windows sucessfully, is it possible that I could get someone else to do it for me if I send you the game on a CD (it's not completed yet, it will be done in early May.) You will, of course, get a free copy of my incredibly exciting tour of the Pompeiian Forum, and I could, uhhh... make you cookies?

    • I have had the same problem with compiling my game. Would it work if i changed all the names of documents for my game to names without spaces??????

      Sum1 - make sure you email tech support with this problem. I tried that and it didn't help me out.

    • I am also running a PowerMac 8500/120 with G3 and I am runng OS 9. So far I have not had any problems but I have not bought ColdStone yet.

      I guess the only reason for this post is my shock that someone out there is running the exact same system.

    • I am having the exact problem. When I build a release, I get an incorrect not registered error message and a game with no audio. This is true for both the regular Mac and OSX versions of the build. I have tried deleting the license file and re registering as suggested by Ambrosia Tech support, but this does nothing.. I have also tried copying the config and cs files from a game that will compile, but this doesn't work either.

      i think in this case Dman has a problem that matched the topic and he's unregistered so he may not be familar with all the points of webboard style.

      Mr. DMan,

      I've never experienced this problem, but several have. There was a solution posted but it only worked for some people. To my knowledge this hasn't been "officially" addressed; ie there is no official solution that will solve the problem for all affected, because it isn't known what is causing it.

      However, hopefully the solution will work for you. It is found in this thread:

      Actually, after re-reading your post, is seems you have already done this but to no avail. So I have some questions for you... ๐Ÿ™‚

      1. Did you download CGE and use it while unregistered?
      2. Did you register the application before receiving the CD?
      3. Did you copy over your registered files with the CD?
      4. Could you ever compile games without CGE telling you that it was unregistered?
      5. Do you have CGE 1.0.1? If not, grab the update.

      My only advice would be to save your source code off in some lonely folder, then delete everything pertaining to Coldstone off your harddrive, making sure you also delete the license file and preference file(I assume there are 2) and the registration application. Install everything from scratch from the CD, and re-register. Create a new game and compile it and see if it lists it as unregistered or registered. If it is registered(hopefully) then load your game's source code and compile it. Check if it is registered or still unregistered.

      Let us know what you find, because it sounds like this issue is still around...

      Cafalll, I'm not trying to be critical of you, but I also don't want new users to take offense and leave when they are trying to get some help. If Mr. DMan had opened a 5 month old topic on cool game ideas then I would probably agree that a reproach, albeit a less strongly worded one, was warranted.

      But this topic is a helpful one dealing with an issue that will prevent people from doing with Coldstone that which it was meant to do: namely to create games. If they can not compile a game in a registered form then the software really doesn't do jack for them.

      This guy has a problem and it is legitimate. This topic discussed the problem with no apparant solution. So he was attempting to revive the topic most likely in the hopes that either a solution was found but never posted, or to renew interest in the topic in order to prod a solution to be made.

      Please, this board has 3 active moderators now. Please let them police the forum guidelines. The are quite capable of doing so.
