    • Can Coldstone Do Simulations

The idea of using the Coldstone Game Engine with kids age 10-13 presents some interesting possiblities. I would like my students to try their hand at a pond-water simulation, with several objects (frog, lily pad, flies, fish) moving at the same time and able to send messages to one another.

      Is this possible with Coldstone?

Could somebody help out by cobbling together such a simulation? Full credit will be given in class (pun intended). Thanks.

    • Hi Zapruder:

ColdStone wouldn't be great for that, because the ability to define interactions between NPCs (objects with agency) is fairly limited.

I think AgentSheets may be more what you're looking for... It's a simulation construction package developed at UC Boulder under an NSF grant. It's designed for just those kinds of simulations and to be used by kids.

Hey Ambrosia -- sorry to direct a user away! BTW, I have no vested interest in AgentSheets. I just think it's cool. 🙂

    • Thanks Jinnes, but AgentSheets is three times the price of Coldstone and way behind in features. StageCast Creator (formerly Cocoa, KidSim, and Playground) is similar.

I was really hoping for something more like Game Maker (see community board and links at (url="http://"http://pub58.ezboard.com/bgamemakercommunity)")http://pub58.ezboard...emakercommunity)(/url), but for that to happen it seems that my next Mac will have to be a Dell.

      Thanks anyway.
