    • I love music so I usually have something playing. Right now, more mellow stuff like Nada Surf, Longwave, Everything but the Girl, Sneaker Pimps, Portishead. But it all depends on my mood. Really, don't do anything out of the ordinary. If I really want to dig in and work I might throw on something a little harder like Smashing Pumpkins, Green Day, BT, 311, AC/DC. I find if it's too hard though I can't focus.

Gotta be music. Up-tempo. Rock/Punk. Blink, Rancid, Third Eye Blind, Everclear, Bosstones, etc.

    • Hrm. With me, it depends on what I'm doing and how I happen to be feeling at the moment: I'll put anything on from Chris LeDoux (How country is he? Well, he's from Texas, and he used to be a rodeo clown.) to Louis Armstrong (Satchmo can't sing worth a plug nickel, but boy can he play that silver trumpet!) to Tchaikovsky (1812 Overture will getcha goin') to Journey, Matchbox 20, and REO Speedwagon (She doesn't like the TOUGH GUYS/That think that they can do/Anything they pleeeeeee-ase/). Of course, I'm just weird, I guess. 🆒

      Dead silence.
      "Quarks it is, then."

    • I have music on in my room every moment that I am in it. I also like to watch a movie while doing my plug programming.

    • Heck, who doesn't listen to music nowdays when on their comp?

Ever since itunes came out the world hasen't been the same, for me and nearly 90% of all mac users. Right now, listening to some techno/upbeat/spacy stuff. EVE has some awsome music.

    • Silence, I sit in silence and wait. Sound anoys me, music I hate, I feel music brings destruction - have you seen A Clockwork Orange?

Just kidding... Hell I am a musician. But generally I do sit in silence and do my programming, sometimes I'll have the radio on, or watch a film, but generally I just can't be bothered to get up and change a cd so if I do put one on, it'll finish and it'll take me about three hours to realise that the cd has finished.

As for computer music, my comp has a bit of a hard time when you listen to mp3's and it has a tendency to crash if you listen to mp3's for too long.

      Just to keep things focused.

    • II turn on the TV and put on a Red Dwarf video. If I listen to music I get distracted but if its Red Dwarf (read Blackadder or some other British Comedy, though occasionally I work just as well with something like South Park or Quads) then it relaxes me because its a comedy (in some cases that can be fairly loosely speaking).

I know EXACTLY how that feels, friend. Done it many a time.

    • I just tend to turn on iTunes and let it run. The little stat thing at the bottom says that I have 7.1 days of songs lined up in my library (a bunch are probably duplicates) so I'm still not sure that I've listened to all the mp3s on my computer. I also have two monitors hooked up to my computer, so I occasionally pop a DVD in and watch it one screen while working on models on the other screen. You don't know how nice it is to have Lightwave Modeler running on one screen and Layout on the other until you've tried it.

    • I usually do things to the sound of my computer fan. I use music to relax, not to work. I'm easily distracted from my work if there's too much noise around me. I'm also a paper-and-pencil guy, jotting down notes or sketching things at random times during the day.

    • I'm a musician, so I listen to just about everything, but Jazz seems to work for me. Throw on some Duke Ellington or Louis Armstrong and I'm fairly creative until the set of Mp3's finish, which, as I've got a fair few, could be hours.

    • Music, definitely music. Then it's just a matter of what type. I love heavy metal, so that distracts me too much. And I have "A Shoggoth on the Roof" in there too which is distracting. Newage and 80's stuff, that doesn't distract me.

    • It really depends... sometimes I just watch TV, other times music, other times film, and sometimes nothing...

Having something in the background when Im doing stuff doesnt really bother me too much - I mainly just use it as background noise. The atmosphere of where Im working often depends what my work is like - Ive produced some great models while sitting in the pub 😛

::cues corny movie ad announcer voice:: Many have tried, but none have succeeded... The Flying Keg has many times been attempted, but never implemented...

Y'know, R.A.F. Spitfire pilots based in England during the Second World War used to fly from one side of the Thames River to the other carrying beer kegs slung underneath their wings. Very popular with breweries (who got paid) and pilots (who got very seriously drunk) alike. Would make a very interesting mission... Especially if one was to implement the KeyCarried feature to show beer kegs strapped all over the ship...
