Hi. New to this webboard, but I've got a thought that you may be interested in. A while back, I managed to link (rather weakly) the EV/O and EVN storylines. But, my point is this: I was always ticked at EV/O because when you led the Zidigar against the Azdgari, or the UE, Emalgha, and Hinwar against the Voinians, you never actually won the war: you took out a few planets, destroyed most of their fleet, but you never actually conquered them. Well, my basic storyline kind of allows for that.
Here it is:
In the Year of Our Lord 2187, an alien race known as the Emalgha successfully completed an attack against the Voinians in concert with the United Earth Government, capturing Romit Station and Avann Outpost.
Soon afterward, another race called the Hinwar rebelled against their Voinian masters, and captured two systems and four planets.
In 2189 A.D., a carefully planned series of attacks by the U.E. Fleet, the Emalgha, and the Hinwar defeated the remainder of the Voinian War-Fleet and decimated the Voinian Empire. The final target was Voinia itself.
A small remotely controlled U.E. Shuttle packed with a super-massive nuclear fusion bomb latched itself onto the center beam of Borb Station, exploded its payload, and sent the station crashing down into the planet below, eliminating all life on Voinia. Three ships were noted jumping out of the system, but were assumed destroyed.
In the treaty drawn up after the destruction of the Voinians, the U.E. Government got all but four of the systems, which were split evenly between the Emalgha and the Hinwar. These two races decided they hadn't gotten their fair share, and revolted in 2195, capturing about half of the former Voinian Empire, splitting it up evenly between the two races.
The United Earth Government promptly declared all-out war on them. Neither the Hinwar or the Emalgha had a chance.
They were exterminated systematically, leaving the empty planets behind for colonization by the end of the 'war', in early 2196.
The United Earth Government now concentrated on the worlds to their South. They brought their full military might down upon these people, and destroyed them by 2198. They also 'agreed' to 'protect' the many Independent worlds in that area, and destroyed those that resisted.
The Strandless peoples to the Galactic South, including South Tip Station, formed an organized resistance, but they couldn't stand against the U.E. onslaught. They were exterminated in 2202.
Now the U.E. Navy paid many mercenaries to go up to the Miranu and Strand worlds, and either capture, buy, or steal examples of their ships and technologies. Of course, the highly-paid individuals succeeded.
Between 2210 and 2213, the U.E. Government took these designs, devised extremely effective countermeasures against them, and improved useful technologies.
When the attacks finally came in 2215, the Miranu and the Strands didn't stand a chance.
Even though the Miranu abandoned their worlds to the North and East, and sent all the Zachit and Militia forces against the U.E. War-Fleets as a delaying action to try and get the U.E. Government to give up, the U.E. War-Fleets still punched through to the undefended worlds, quickly destroying their shipyards and industrial facilities. In this way, the U.E. Fleets disabled the Miranu worlds, eliminating resistance.
Mira was destroyed a week afer the attacks started, and North Tip Station, Outpost Zachit, and New Mira a few days later.
Now, having annihilated the Miranu and the Strandless, the U.E. Warfleets concentrated on the more dangerous Strands, destroying one at a time. They started with the Zidigar.
Of course, neither the Azdgari or the Igadzra offered any assistance to the Zidigar, and were actually glad to see their millenia-old enemy destroyed, their ships burning wrecks, their worlds airless molten lumps of rock and metal.
This is exactly what the U.E. Admirals were hoping for. They had used the centuries-old tactic of divide and conquer.
Now, they worked on the Azdgari. By this time, the two remaining Strands had gotten the idea of what was going on, and temporarily united.
But even this could not stop their destruction. As they had been fighting the same war with the same strategies and weapons for millenia, they couldn't adapt to the newer and different U.E. weapons and tactics.
They were both exterminated at around the same time, in late 2218.
Finally, the U.E. War-Fleets converged on the Gadzair system in 2219, in an attempt to find out what exactly the Galactic Council really was. They blasted their way into the station, and, after exploring it in its entirety, not finding anything that terribly interesting, promptly destroyed the station.
In 2221, a famous U.E. Admiral named Gregory Levy took his underpaid, very experienced, and extremely loyal fleet into battle - against the U.E. Fleet. He won, and in 2225 captured Earth, and proclaimed himself Emperor Augustus Gregorius Cćsar of the Terran Empire.
Not much happened for a few more centuries, except the dispersal of the Proxima and Ji Nebulas and the strip-mining of the North Tip Asteroid Belt.
Around 2700, Omata Kane was born. She really doesn't deserve all the credit she gets: contrary to popular misconception, she did not develop the HyperDrive technology, which was actually designed by a scientist named (insert good name here - that's the one thing I'm not good at, picking character named) around 2050. However, Omata Kane did completely redesign the HyperDrive, allowing larger ships to jump faster, farther, and with much more precision than ever before. Along with that, she designed and built the Kane Belt, and those highways of interstellar travel, the HyperGates, capable of transporting thousands of ships simultaneously from any point in the Galaxy to any other. Because of her developments, a great portion of the Galaxy was colonised, most of which was previously unaccessable.
In the early part of 2187, the Voinian Emperor realized that he wasn't going to win that war. He was a rather peaceful, gentle person, who inherited the war as part of his reluctant acceptance of the throne.
He tried to stop the war with the agreement that lead to Pax Station, but that failed due in part to the U.E. Government and their ship captains, and in part to his own captains, who constantly picked fights with the U.E. ships, until the war was re-declared.
After the capture of Romit Station, he delivered an order to the commander of Avann Outpost to destroy his station at the most opportune moment, in an attempt to forestall any U.E. advances, and destroy as many of their ships and men as possible.
The Voinian Empire had officially gone on the defensive.
The Voinian Emperor now committed his fleet to holding off the Allied threat as long as possible, and threw all remaining resources - and then some - into Hyperspatial research.
Eventually, three ships were outifitted with special HyperDrives: two Supply Ships and a Frigate. They were one-time-use engines, designed to carry them far away from the human-dominated part of the galaxy, to a Voinia-like system, and allow the remnants of their society to regain their supremacy.
Eventually, the humans expanded around them.
The Polarans came in contact with a race which destroyed all human ships they met.
Some Polaran captain with a particularly poetic turn of mind called them the Wraith (Demons) of the Stars. The name stuck.
Now, the New Voinians, as the 'Wraith' call themselves, are well on their way to their goal of being capable of destroying humanity with a single blow...
I just thought that you might be interested in the basic storyline. Also, I'll see if I can get QT over here sometime, as he came up with a rather interesting re-do of the Emalgha. They actually ended up being the most advanced race in the galaxy, with these wonderful, fast, maneuverable, incredibly ugly ships that used anti-matter cannon - an interceptor could destroy a frigate within seconds, and a good bomber pilot could take out a Dreadnought with ease.
