    • Rendering Time in Infini-D...

      I was just wondering how long it took most people to render a fairly complex model on phong with all the frills (shadows, transparencies, etc.) turned on...It takes me a good 6 hours to do a 30 frame project....which makes me think I need a new computer.

      BTW - The banter board apparently doens't like it when I post my banter :), Noting that I don't see it as easy to gain karma, I'm proud of the fact that I lost some for posting the unabridged lyrics to 99 bottles of beer on the wall. I need less free time...rendering takes too long, and I've nothing to do while it's working...

    • Infini-D's Phong shading mode actually doesn't work quite properly, as it's slower than RayTracing, but really shouldn't be.

      Try rendering your project using RayTracing...it should take a lot less time.

      Really... something must be up. Is it just a ship, or something a lot more complex, like an indoor scene? On my old Supermac, upgraded to a 280 Mhz G3, I can do a 320 x 240 rendering with 36 frames of two ship models in under half an hour. And when I get on my 333 Mhz iMac, you better watch out. 🙂

      C'mon, you don't have to do that. Just write:

      for (int i=99; i>0; i--)
      {
      cout<<i<<" bottle of beer on the wall, "<<i<<" bottles of beer.n";
      cout<<"Take one down, pass it around, "<<(i-1)<<"bottles of beer on the wall.n".
      }
      😛

    • I personally can't stand Infini-D's raytracer... I always have problems with the final rendered scene. I've stuck to high-quality phong, which doesn't seem to take long at all on a G3. It might take me twenty minutes to render a large sprite animation in phong mode...
