That sucks. I won't be a very good mercenary if I run away all the time.

He who fights and runs away, lives to fight another day.

Seriously, as a mercenary, fighting battles for/with whoever hires you won't be all you do (hopefully). Webstories nowadays are mostly focused on character-based plot development, with a bit of carnage thrown in, instead of the old research-and-obliterate style.

Take a line from any Star Wars movie. Replace certain words with 'spank':
"The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the Spank."
"Queen Amidala is young and naive; you will find spanking her not too difficult." "And what of the Jedi?" "She should never have brought them into this. Spank them immediately."

    • To anyone who cares:
This is what I believe the production should be based upon. Ships per system (changes with tech level in a government) per real time day. So for example a level 5, the top level Vionian planet or station would get 2 Cruisers, 3 Frigates, 6 Heavy Fighters and 8 Interceptors per RTD. On the other hand a level 1 Vionian planet would get 3 Heavy Fighters and 5 Interceptors. Then there would also need to be a way to upgrade tech level for each system. My idea may not be the best but being obstinate as I am, I believe it is.

      Varuna:
I assumed from your post that like many others (myself included) you might not have infinate time but want to have deep characters. If I came off as obnoxious self-absorbed and imbecillic it is most likely because I am, but as anyone who deals with me will vouch I attempt to be fair. However feel free to enter combat with me, I've never played as a large government and as a small one I always tried to take on a tactical challenge. If you are an exceptional strategist I can't wait to cross swords.

Ummmm  except for the fact that most voinian planets CANNOT produce ships due
to their gravity. Most governments in EVO have one designated ship producing place, often
times a space station, this also adds tactics to the game play because if you capture the main ship building system the government is screwd. Here's my 2 cents: I think that each planet would produce production credits, and a certain amount of credits (resources)
= a ship at the shipyard.

What do I know though I have never played in a webstory.

Good idea, I agree. My initial impulse was to yell and scream but looking it over I can only see one flaw. A large government making war on two sides like any strand or the Vionians. So I'd say each large government should have 2-3 shipyards. I have been in several webstories but never an EVO one so my knowledge is as limited as anyone else, so I take no offence at your correction.

    • Yes, every government should have a few places where there are shipyards, more for a larger government, and a few places where there are tech labs, more for a larger government. You could build so many ships at a shipyard per day (real day), and probobly only have any many techs researched as you have tech labs.

Yes, I've done my homework and read a few previous webstorys. Not every post, but enough to get the general idea.

      ------------------

    • Well...

In the webstories I have played in we haven't really done either of these, but I think that both of you have good ideas here. I'm willing to endorse it if we can figure out some reasonable production credit figures.

The general idea that we are going with is that every government starts with a fixed amount of ships. Every RTD, they produce 10% of that original value. Thus, there is room to compromise between these two views. Say, for instance, that you spread the construction involved in making that 10% across a few select systems. For one example, one of the main Igadzra shipyards would be in Innor, for in game plot purposes. (I think Innor was the largest shipyard in EVO...)

I, however, being a very small government, have my own plan as to how to deal with shipyards. I do, however, intend to follow the 10% rule; I'll just start out with fewer ships.

      Regards,
      Solel

    • You know, I have an idea for another topic. And R&D; topic. You would post whever you started a project, say wether it's a tech or building project, and also the ending date. You would also post whenever you have changed your project. You would at last post when your project is complete.

Projects and research are normally given status reports every post the author makes, within the IC thread.

😕 So which is it Friday? The weekend? Or later?

I supose we could start forming alliances or something to keep this story from growing
staler. Or we could all just get the google toolbar and vote against AOL.
