    • To make sure people aren't lying about dominating planets, you could just have them post screenshots of their map with the stellar(s) in question dominated.

    • Progress Report

Okay currently this is what I have so far (i decided to redew a lot of the stuff so I kinda backtracked):

      New Map (99%) -

      10 systems total
8 systems set for dominating (1 for each major race: UE, Voinians, Renegades, Zachit, Igadzra, Zidigar, Azdigari, Council)
1 system set for purchasing ships and outfits
1 system set for advancing your combat rating (UE shuttles with 1500 crew members)

      Outfits & Ships (50%) -

All outfits (that don't need a mission bit) available at starting system. (subject to change)
All ships (that don't need a mission bit) available at starting system. (subject to change)

      Overall (75%)

Very funny, now beam down my clothes. These ladies look rest-less..... uh-oh...
      Alien's famous tongue...
"Vionions?? Voinioniommoins?? Viks? Veggies? Vegetables? Oh wait, that's a hewman plant...
      SEARCH..... THEN...... ASK!!!!

    • Shall we place bets? Winner gets a free copy of, say, EV Nova? (hint hint)

Or, maybe the winner gets to get his/her përs in Nova or some upcoming plug-in.

On another note, I imagine with a lo-o-o-o-o-ot of patience and good Monty Python skill, one could destroy enemy ships until the cows come home. It's easy enough to steer clear of attackers until one's shields are fully recharged, at which point he or she continues monty-pythoning.

    • Thats the problem I've recently thought off. However fighters could always catch up to you and if you like being slow ships than you can't do much running away. We'll just have to hope that people don't easily conquer all the planets

      ------------------
      "As you wish."

    • you could conceivably give the defending ships modified turrets which have their range just high enough to prevent pythoning.

      ------------------

    • Right! Right! Give the defenders turrets the range of a missle, no, lets not....

As for the monty python thingie, what if you give the DSN lots of fighters, and good ones!
Oh, and i'm glad you didn't include the Emalgha, I could never finish the plug if I had to attack my own 🙂

And one last thing, how are we going to PAY for the outfits?
      Plundered cash from shuttlecraft?
Oh by the way, how do you effectivly disable a shuttlecraft? (don't laugh) I always kill them! other then them and that bloody green fighter I've disabled them all!

Buganobular, you wouldn't believe this, I the Princess Bride expert (on right now) had to take a second glance at your sig! 😄

    • Hey Bubagump, did you ever consider having a planet give you a code after it is dominated and them you make a list of all the codes you got and after everybody is done they could reveal their codes?

    • I know you're already pretty far along in the game, but couldn't you achieve a better effect through missions? Just use the standard EVO graphics to create a list of ships from weak to extremely tough - say 50 levels. Every level is a mission. You land on the main planet - where there are no shipyards, and just outfitting for reloading torpedos and such. Every mission you receive lets you go on to the next. It would off course also involve 50 dudes... make the few levels defense fleets which are almost impossible to beat...

i think this would work better then the dominate planet system...
and since any system can be cheated (and i think everyone here is smart and skilled enough to do it) we'll just rely on everyone being honest.

oh by the way count me in

      sarcas

      ------------------

    • sarcas has a point. but i suppose that would be Too Much Work?

      ------------------

    • Hmm... I like both of those suggestions. Here is a little mixture of both.

We have missions in which you must destroy a ship or a fleet. You accept the mission, head into another system, destroy the ship or fleet, and then return to the original planet where they give you a secret code and the next mission. Each mission gets harder and harder and harder untill, hopefully, it is hard enough so that nobody can beat it 😄 Then after you've done a dozen or so missions and you've gotten pretty high you send me your list of codes and I'll see if it matches up. Then I'll post on the web board the rankings. Sound good? If so I'll have to restart but it shouldn't be too hard... please give me input. (Also if we do decide to change it to this than I won't be changing it again so please get all your suggestions in asap!)

      ------------------
      "As you wish."

    • You can't do the secret codes thing. 90% of people on this board can just go read it in the plug file 🙂

Oh by the way i made a stupid typo which made one of my sentences make no sense - that should be: give the last few levels defense fleets which are almost impossible to beat...

i'd make the player use the same ship all the way... no upgrades whatsoever, do you agree?

      sarc

      ------------------

    • As much as I would like to make it completly impossible to cheat it won't ever be. So:

      1. I'm going to keep the code idea. First of all it would be a little harder to cheat and take a little more time, which might make people say "Oh it ain't worth it" Now I know this won't eliminate it all but we can only ask people to be honest when it comes to playing the Challenge.

      2. I was always going to keep it a rule that you had to keep your ship and outfits once you start with them. If you didn't then they could just buy and outfit their ship according to how the defense fleet is set up and what the defense fleet is like.

      3. Should we allow escorts?

And now off the topic of EVO Webboard Challenge:
~Patton: did you finally figure out where that Princess Bride line was from?

      ------------------
      "As you wish."

    • I don't think there should be escorts or fighters in here... let them do it all by themselves 🙂

To let people choose from a startup configuration you could have an initial 'mission' which explains the concept and the rules, and which is automatically completed, setting a mission bit which replaces the first planet (which HAS a shipyard) with a second (which doesn't have a shipyard but which DOES have outfitting (for stock reload)

In the first shipyard you could have a set of extremely strong warships... Say 20. although i must say that, given enough time, you can defeat even the strongest defense fleet with just one single crescent warschip, even without fighters or escorts...

oh and by the way i'll have a super crescent warship 🙂

      sarcas

ps. i'd love to jump in and do a bit of the coding myself but i'm stuck on a wintel box right now 😞

    • buba... you could have all the weapons (launchers only, not ammo) be available after the first mision is completed, via a misn bit. after one takes the first fighting mission, that bit is cleared and no more launchers/ships anymore!

That's an excellent idea. Give 'em the chance to "choose their weapon," so to speak, then make it final. I'd imagine people would want to post the specs and type of ship when they release their "codes," so a person who did it all in a shuttle could get more respect than one in a UE Cruiser.

Maybe someone with excellent statistics skill could sit down and give each ship and outfit a "deadliness coefficient," based on a ship's maneuverability, firepower, and longetivity, and an outfit's strength, range, and probability-of-kill.

We could then multiply each score by its respective coefficient to get a score that's based on both the player's performance and the effectiveness of his ship.

      Food for thought, I suppose.

    • Bubagoolash,
Yes I did figure it out, like a couple seconds after I should have, i still need to buy that sound track....Do they have Princess Bride in DVD?

      1. As for the challenge, if its not too late, consider this, give each ship a ranking, like a shuttle craft as one and the cresent warship as 100 or whatever, and so the weaker your ship the higher your ranking, thus showuing what you can do with puny ships!!!
