    • EV is Getting too Easy

The original Escape Velocity is way too easy for me any more.
Here's how my last pilot's history whent:

      1. Did a few rush missions
      2. Bought a Defender, upgraded to two javellin launchers
      3. Pirated in pirate systems, looking for kestrels
      4. Bought a Lightning
      5. Stole clipper escorts (for more crew)
      6. Stole argosy escorts, dropped the clippers (for more crew)
      7. Captured a Confederate Cruiser (No joke!)
      8. Proceeded to capture Frigates and then Cruisers as escorts
      9. I now own most of the galaxy
It probably took me three game hours to get to step eight. I can defeat any ship in any ship. Don't get me wrong, I'm not bragging. The point, actually, is to display that even after being played out to this extent, the original EV is still quite enjoyable. One of the greatest games of Macintosh history, I believe. Anyone else have any other stories on the topic?

    • If you find it too easy, try a plug its like an extention of the game but I sugest starting the game over.

How about shuttle vs Alien 🙂

I start a new character after I have dominated a few planets and done all of the missions. Usually in a different plugin. I now have a collection of around a dozen pilots which have beaten EV (standard and with plugins) and own a few planets. I've conquered half the galaxy before, its boring.

The next frontier after ruling the galaxy is playing the better plugins. They have ships and missions that will challenge you.

      ------------------

    • You missed a big step, and the most fun one: The missions! Rebels have them, Confeds have them, and there's others out there that I'll leave you to find. After you've figured out how to do both Rebel missions and Confed missions on the same pilot file, have the tractor beam, particle beam, and cloaking device on your ship at the same time, and can buy both Rebel and Confed ships, plus defeating the mission titled "T.A.G.- You're it", as well as the Diphidia missions... you really haven't done all their is to do. There's also UGE and Starbound Shipping missions, can't remember if there's any for ConEx though. Do all that, and do it on strict play, then you'll be able to say you've done everything.

At which point you should start playing plug ins. Of which there are quite a few good ones.

      ------------------

    • No AJ, ConEx doesn't have any missions for you to do. You destroy some of their ships for Starbound Shipping in their missions, but they don't have any for you to do.

Now go contact Joe and Kevin and get your butts to work on NR.

    • Huh?

    • Or you could just download my AEV ( A dvanced E scape V elocity). That'll make the game harder. Much, much, harder.

And it's available in the EV addons section.

    • you could get evedit or resedit and modify things to make it harder, such as: make the aliens harder, the the AI better, make ships more expensive, lower the things you can get from disabling a ship, make outfits way more and cost more, and there are other things you can do.

    • In my opinion, how hard the game of Escape Velocity is depends on what decisions and missions you take. Join the Rebellion, and you've got yourself a full time job. Join the Confederation, and you've got missions as well. But don't stop there...Plenty more awaits (especially with plugins like "Galactic Scourge").

    • If you want to make the alien mission set more difficult, test drive "Galactic Scourge". They allow you to get the rebel destroyer earlier (before the mission; the way you earn ships in GS is great, though it's a shame that the dreadnought isn't up for grabs, only the cruddy defense platform), but even with this brilliant ship it took me a while. One of the hardest missions I've ever done, it's so tricky with the pesky alien fighters after you. If you think that EV is easy (and I agree with you) then try Galactic Scourge, it's the best plug-in I've found so far.

"It's a big building with patients in, but that's not important right now"

    • evo is a little more difficult than ev. it also has more missions. you could try that. 😉

Some people have said so, though it is somewhat hard. I believe they said this was accomplished by demolishing ships of their former government, while gaining a cleaner legal status with the other government. I've never tried it myself, though...

    • it does sound pretty difficult. the best idea would probably do the rebel missions first then get the false id and do the confed missions.

    • A few points

      1. There is no rebel fake ID in the standard EV game, and
      2. EVO isn't a patch on EV, and none of the missions, maybe except the dreadnought mission, are that hard.

      This is not fully correct.

Most of the missions for a government require that you first do the Transfer Documents mission for the government. To do both the rebel and confed mission strings, you must accept the Transfer Rebel Documents mission, but do not complete it. Then find and accept the Transfer Confed Documents mission. After you have both missions active, complete both of them at your leisure. If you complete one of the Transfer Documents missions before accepting the other Transfer Documents mission, you will not be offered the other Transfer Documents mission.

After that, Captain Skyblade's description applies.

Unfortunately Kevin is out of NR for the present, and I could use some help.

    • You have to start both mission strings at the same time!
