    • Any Games Yet

Any games yet - just wondering. I haven't seen anyone release any games. What is with the links page most of the links don't work? Coldstone is a great idea from a lot of well meaning people but also very poor support from both Ambrosia and Beenox. The number of fatal bugs in the program have either eliminated or discourage most people from trying to make games, me for one. If someone can prove me wrong please do, I would love to see something decent come from the coldstone game engine.

      Just my two cents.

    • I'm working on it I'm working on it. I'm using Poser and other stuff. But yes I'm working on a game. The only reason I'm discouraged is because of the bugs. I don't want to get all the way to finishing my game and then find out that it doesn't work. But yes I'm creating one and I hope others are too.

Just plug-ins for PoG from me.

But then, that's all I ever intended to do with CGE and the reason I got it...

    • Hi. I'm working on a game called: Wander Chronicles. I'm still in the writing phase working on the first draft of the core script (page 26 now) and am about a 1/4 of the way done. Then I have to write the script for the npc's and the side quests (I figure another 30 pages for that). As I am (currently) the only person working on this at the moment (I have a great composer lined up) it is going to take awhile. I'm hoping to get the first draft of the script done by the end of November/December.

Once the script is finalized I can begin major work on the graphics and using Coldstone to make my game. The whole game creation process is a lot more time consuming than I ever imagined.

Old links - same problem as there used to be with the "EV Upcoming Plugs" page, ages ago - people announce some massive game, get it posted on the page, then it turns into vaporware without notice.

Fatal bugs? Though I don't want to seem like EVula, I do feel the need to bring up my buglist. I'm not aware of that many bugs which I would consider "fatal" - does your definition differ from mine, or are there a bunch of bugs I'm missing?

Well, I've played both a one screen demo of 'Afrika Korp' a WWII set comat game and a Eastern favored RPG with awsome graphics and lots of gameplay. The Coldstone projects are out there but the whole concept of the CGE is its for people who want to create games as good as the ones they play but dont have the resources to program their own engine. So I expect games to take a little time.

Progess has been made on the dev side of Coldstone 'eLLrx' has recently posted solutions to some coldstone engimas. Also Stark's twist of my timer code has perfected a game timer for the CGE.

things are happening in the community but speed is not a factor the CGE is know for remember most of us are waiting for word of 1.0.2 or some RealBasic fixes.

    • I agree I think that there are going to be some great games once people finish them, but it just takes time. Like mine, which because I strive to achieve perfection will probably take awhile. Especially since I'm not using sprites. And I'm also creating all the graphics myself, I'm not planning on using any graphics that come with CS. I like to be original which means also that my storyline has to be thought up clearly and detailed because that's just how I am.

Hey Bunny the games looking good. As is yours Migraine, and your's, Pedrith, sounds like it's going to be really really good.
Oh just a side point, but hey Migraine I just realized this, but I'm tied with you in post count. WOW 😉

Hehe, so we are! (well... not any more, you're gonna have to post again to get level with me, heh.)
And i know what you mean when you say graphics take a long time to create yourself... believe me! I'm sure it'll be worth it though. Patience all, I'm sure a library of coldstone-based games and plug-ins will develop soon...
Hey, that's an idea! This is very hopeful... but do you reckon, once things get going, Ambrosia will provide a bit of webspace for games developed by coldstone users? People could download them to get more of an idea of what Coldstone can achieve, and it'd be a great place for developers to check out each others work 🙂
I think Europress did something similar for games made with "The Games Factory" and "Klik n Play." ... or shall I stop Dreaming? 😉

    • Thanks Stray for signing the GuestBook and the free Publicity (by the by Tandum still uses Panning/sprites so its more of a Card Hybrid)

'Bunny, your game needs to be built using the build & release command, or needs to include the entire project folder and the 1mb application(not a good idea)...

What fatal errors are you referring to, if you mean objectively as in it crashes, then yes some do exist, most of the ones i know of are occur because Coldstone doesn't plan for the unlikely (if your feeling reckless try hitting the loop button in a single frame animation)...the best advice with all things is save and save often.
The engine has its quirks but it still produces a working product provided you don't step outside of the looslety enforced guidelines.
Many of the things people wish to do are possible but require as much planning as the story, as "easy" as ColdStone is there is no easy way to make a game, you would incur more frustration bugs errors etc if you attempted to build the games from scratch.
CGE has a beguiling friendly interface but its still a professional tool. The best thing we can do as a community is provide templates, tutorials. This is akin to providing demos,classes/types,chunks of code, etc.

Well enough of that, i'm currently doing interface work/animations/new 3d models/environments etc. I'll probably launch with only 3-4Maps and release the rest as plugins in the INFO-Mac archive.

      ------------------

    • I totally agree with Migraine, just you wait and see. And then I bet a whole bunch of games will come out at the same time. It will be the shining hour for mac users. 😉

P.S Migraine I do believe this puts me one ahead of you. 🙂

    • I've been working on a game since before Coldstone came out, and i'm still not passed the planning stages. It's gonna be huge!

But I have to scrape oogether the 70-some odd dollars Canadian I need to register Coldstone as well. I'm thinking summer 2003 for a release date 🙂

(go hand drawn gamess w00t! My game has entirely hand drawn art so far, even the back grounds which took me a few months to finish...)
