    • A Fabulous Invisible Plug-in

Is there any known tendency of EV Nova to simply not load plug-ins inside the plug-in folder? I'm starting a project by loading a fairly ambitious ship into the EVN universe but, regardless of how closely I mimic existing ships, the game doesn't seem to be affected by the plug.
On a tip from the EVN Bible, I made a debuglog.txt in EVN's main folder and fired the game up. Same problem, but I discovered that EVN was still capable of using other people's plugs. The log gave a run-down of plugs being loaded but mine was suspiciously absent.
      Posibilities in my mind:
      1. ResEdit file format isn't recognized as a legitimate plug-in format
      2. Nova Tools is doing something strange to my file when I'm not looking.
      3. I've royally screwed up a resource somewhere but, if this is the case, why doesn't the log tell me?
      4. Is 1.4 MB a bad size for a plug-in to be?
      5. The ghost of my neglected EVO plug-in is haunting my computer.

Since I've just begun building a plot-line for this, I'm trying to avoid any uneccesary weeping and gnashing of teeth. A technical shove down the right corridor would be appreciated.

I think this is the problem. You mut set the type/creator codes to the one of a plug for it to work. So either edit them with ResEdit to change them by file menu:get file/folder info or get info for ... (name of your plug) if it is already open, or copy an existing or blank plug and edit it.

Let me know if it has worked, I may be wrong.

    • The type must be Npďf, and the creator Növä.
The icon of the plug will change to the standard black icon of any working Nova plug. Now, Nova can load it.

    • More French team to the rescue, if you need to know: in order to type ¨ on a wowel, do alt-u, then the wowel, if you use an american keyboard config (and you are on a mac, but that seems obvious). I would advise you to copy and paste from an existing plug, it's safer.

(¨have been used by Matt Burch since long (EV, namely, at least) ago to avoid overlaps).

    • The file format change fixed the plug-in so all is now well...that is to say, it's well enough that I can see where all the real bugs are. Kinda like turning on the kitchen light and watching cockroaches skitter about. It may just be my computer but Nova Tools seems to be randomly adding number 3's to my resources. Example: a 6 stage animation for weapon unfolding becomes a 63 stage animation and a weapon that does 3 points of energy damage now does 33. Whine whine whine...

Anyway, thanks again for the advice. I'll be back in no time, I'm sure!

I've encountered this problem too. It's not the computer and it's not Novatools, it's the user. If I enter a value in a Novatools editor and then press "Enter" the dreaded "3" gets appended to the data I just entered, but it's not visible until you exit the editor and then re-open the resource. Simple solution -- electrify your "Enter" key so that everytime you touch it, you get shocked. Electroshock therapy has helped me terrifically.

      -<zap>-... OW !

Pretty soon you learn not to press the "Enter" key.

    • I was beginning to suspect that enter key was up to something. Alligator clips and battery pack will be installed in the morning. No zot! more pressing zappp! that stupid fizzt! enter key.
