    • Spob graphics problem...

I have been having a problem adding graphics to EVN (through plugins). I can create the system/spob/etc. I just can't get the new planet graphic to appear on screen.(Instead of the planet there's a constant explosion occuring where the planet should be)
I have tried a variety of things, trying to use PICT rescources, trying to use w00tware's PICT/rle8/relD conversion programs(which I still can't figure out how to use). Any suggestions or assistance is appreciated.

    • I hope that someone answers your question soon...but I have to say that this constant explosion effect sounds pretty cool. Can you list the settings you have now for this planet?

Me too, as I've got many planets that I want to get up in a format that people could use.

Hahaha, I laughed out loud at that, no joke, mainly because I was thinking the exact same thing. 🙂

Yeah, it was kinda odd..... especially when you hailed it.
I currently have a PICT rescource of the planet - 2067
      A SPIN - 1260 - SpritesID - 2067 Graphics - PICT
The SPOB's graphic is set to- 1260

Oh... and EVula what program are you using to create those planets. If I had to guess, LunarCell?

Yeah, I just went a bit overboard with the number of planets... I'm on my 7th batch, with 12 per batch (I also did 12 for DUNE (5 or so of which will be used), and then there are 4 untitled ones... I've got a lot.

Gah, good to know. I'll hold off upgrading until it's up and working without any problems here at work.

    • I'm too lazy to check this out for technicalities, but I suggest that you check the resource IDs. Plus, I don't have Nova on this computer and what not. Ok, well, it's probably a resource conflict. Also make sure that the IDs are corresponded with the Nova ones and that they are in the right....realm of numbers. trying to replace 30000 and making an error by numbering the new one 3000 would not be good...

    • Ooh, very nice planets, I highly support the idea of making them available in usable format 🙂 From my experience of Nova planet-making, they seem to work much, much, much better if you use RLE*s instead of PICTs. Oh, and that link, "My Polaris Fleet"... why is it that when I look at that I hear the Imperial March?

    • YAY! :D.......
      I finally figured it out.

      For those intrested here's how I did it....(I can't garuntee I didn't forget anything)
      planet PICT RID-2066
      planet mask PICT RID-2194
      1. First I took the planet graphic and made a 8-bit and a 16-bit version of it. (I used graphic converter). I also made a single mask by inverting the graphic and erasing the inside of planet.

      2. I than copied/pasted the graphic into two ResEdit files as PICTs(see above for RIDs). I also did the same for the mask. I than created a SPIN set to PICT(not rle8 or rleD), with the Sprite and Mask ID's as above. Duplicated the SPIN and placed it in the other ResEdit files. I titled them planet.res8 and planet.res16.

      3. Than I dragged and dropped them both into EnRLE. Clicked OK. Two files were produced planet.rle8 and planet.rleD.

      4. I then copied and pasted the rle8 and rleD rescources into the orininal ResEdit file and deleted the PICT rescource.

The main problem was that I didn't have an 8-bit and 16-bit versions of the graphic. I also had didn't have RID's in the SPIN match the PICT at one point, when I tried the conversion with the 8-bit and 16-bit. I fixed these problems when I ran a ResEdit file containing a planet rel8/rleD and SPIN from EVN through both DeRLE/EnRLE. I observed what happened and tried to duplicate the results.

I'd like to thank those who tried to point me in the right direction.
