    • Gualon station plus some

Hi all! I'm new here, having eventually found a place to get help with my problem.
Having initiated the Emalgha-UE offensive against the Voinians and achieved my objective (after several tries), I went to Ghammol Station and got a mission to free the Hinwar. I did the first few legs of the journey and got stuck on capturing Gualon station - I have a team of marines from Outpost Gamma, but my lone Crescent Warship has a serious failing in having to defeat the entire defensive fleet at Gualon.
Is there any more help to get in capturing Gualon station, if not what tips do you have?

Additionally, some other questions I have...
How can you get a ship capable of taking on multiple Voinians?... My crescent warship seems to be the best ship available as yet, I have done as much as I can on it and it still struggles to beat more than one Voinian Frigate. As I recall, I've equipped it with:
4 Phase Turrets, 2 SAD Launchers, 25 SAD Modules
4 Shield Enhancers, 1 Dospect Armour, 1 ECM System + Zidagar version
RCS, Thrust, and Engine Upgrades, Sensor Upgrade, IFF Decoder, Density Scanner, NPD.

Which is the best type of gun, Emalghian, Phase, Blaze or Neutron?
That's all for now. No doubt I'll think of some more questions later ๐Ÿ˜ƒ ...

There's no gun that's going to make it easy to take out large Voinian fleets. You need escorts to help you. Right now, I'm using an UE Cruiser with 6 captured Igazras as escorts. Add 5 UE fighters to the fighter bay and you have a fairly effective KAVAG (Kick A** Voinian Attack Group) ๐Ÿ™‚ I've dominated every Voinian system except Voinia itself, and in most cases domination was pretty easy. The Igazras deal with the Frigates and Cruisers, the UEfighters target the stray interceptors and voinian heavy fighters. You sit back in your Cruiser and direct the action or muscle your way into the thick of fighting and help take out a few cruisers, then mosey off for a while to raid disabled little voinians for their rockets and rebuild your shields. Everyone has pros and cons about the UE cruiser, but one really nice thing is that you can easily capture just about anything and use it for escort. As for the best guns against Voinians, I guess Neutron turrets would do the best job overall. But I get tired of having to cruise the galaxy to swap out weapons for specific campaigns, so I finally settled on 2 phase turrets, 2 neutron turrets, and 1 Emalghia turret as a good general-purpose setup. The phase turrets give good long-range accuracy, the neutrons heavy hitting with so-so accuracy (actually the scatter helps against fighters by eliminating blind spots, and finally the Emalghia turret makes a neat sound, and helps a bit for those hand-to-hand point-blank in-your-ugly-Voinian-face slugfests ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • if you can, get out of that piece o crap crescent ship and get a decent capital like the UE cruiser, then grab some escorts from igazra space and whoop @ยงยง. i prefer neutrons over every other weapon in the game...except maybe needle missiles ๐Ÿ˜›

      ------------------

    • Ive done all the missions in a lone Lazira, with no secondary weapons (I just cant be bothered with buying or stealing missiles all the while). Just take out the fighters and take your time with the frigates and cruisers...they are very slow and very stupid. I do agree with Whurp here...get out of that Cresent Warship, its a deathtrap! If you can get yourself some escorts, all the better.
the main thing with the Voinians is not to panic, its only the fighters that will catch up with you, and they are easily dealt with. I never bother to change my guns from Phase turrets either...it may take a little longer against the Voinian armour, but you have ALL the advantages just by possessing a brain. The Voinians are like turtles!
      Cheers

    • Escorts captured in the Crescent are kind of useless against the Voinians. My mixed bag of Aradas and Laziras struggle to take on Voinian Frigates, and usually all need replacing after a prolonged battle. Their phase weapons and dispersal rockets excel at taking out shields... but the Voinians barely use shields.

Might as well order the escorts to hold position, and save them dying needlessly. Fly away from the planet, stringing out the hostile heavy fighters and interceptors. As they overhaul you, face them and nail them with neutron guns. Lob off a rocket as well if several fighters close with you in a pack. Once you've disabled the fighters, there'll be so damn many rockets lying around the place, you can shoot down anything the Voinians have left. Don't board a fighter until you have space for 8 rockets, then take ammo, fuel if you need it, and then attempt capture (assuming you have five or less escorts). Let the newly loyal fighter go get itself killed... it will hurt a frigate or cruiser before it gets wasted.

And rinse and repeat; and rinse and repeat; and rinse and repeat as required.

Voinians can be challenging opponents, but they're only really dangerous if you lose your cool. One of the biggest dangers is getting bored waiting for your shields to regenerate, and going back in too early. Don't do it! Once you've dealt with anything faster than you, crank the game speed up to 225% (in prefs menu), and then double it with Caps Shift... fly around for a minute... your shields will soon be up to strength. Try not to get hit so much, and you won't have to do this too often.

And don't worry - the Crescent Warship is perfectly fine, if it's equipped sensibly and it fits your flying style.

      "I wear a helmet
But I've got a bare chest
      I do some talking
      My phaser does the rest
      Don't like your tentacles
      Don't like your face
      Don't like your planet
Think I'll lay it to waste
      'Coz I'm Rambo in Space
      Yeah, I'm Rambo in Space"

    • He's right... Crescent ships are pretty useless agaisnt the voinians. I have a fully loaded Igazra worth over 20 million credits and four Zidagar Warship escorts, but the don't help much against the heavily armored Voinian Warships.

I would suggest you gettign a UE Cruiser, bringing it up to Mirava and add some speed and engine upgrades, also convert all your cargo space to weapon space since you shouldn't be hauling around naything at this point in the game.

Emalgha cannons work well against Voinian armor, but that's about it, Phase cannons have longer range but are weaker, Blaze cannons are strong but limited in range, and Neutron cannons are very powerful but limited in speed.

So your best bet would be to divide your weapons as equally as possible between blaze cannons, neutron cannons, and emalgha cannons.

    • um how does one get marines?

    • That's great. I got a UE cruiser and four escorts (three Igazra, one Crecent warship) and beat them, admittedly with only one Igazra left, however, that Igazra is still with me now =).
Now for another problem and another question; the problem - I'm fairly sure one of the main objectives in the game is to do with the Strand war, (one side winning??), but ... stuck, can't find any more missions in any of the Strands. The only noticable mission I'd done previously was helping the new commander of Outpost Maloch. The Zidagar have let me get some of their technology - is this all I can do with the Zidagar?
What I want to do now is help the Azdgari and get some of their technology - I'm not used to having a ship this slow (even with engine, thrust and RCS upgrades), or even help the Igadzri. Any way to do this?
One last question: are there any more missions to get in UE space? I've beaten the Dreadnought, rebuilt Paaren Station, allied them with the Emalgha and so on. Rescued the ship designer, Anna someone, and destroyed the renegade base at New Alcatraz... so on so forth. Anything else?

    • Yes, you can do more missions with the Zidagar. I don't recall which planet to start them on though. When you finish them you'll get a message saying you've completed one of the objectives, to destabilize the strand war.
