Wouldn't be awsome if EVO 1.0.2 allowed you to land on the planet and it would be like Myst. Where you could talk to and kill people.

    • I suggested this on the old EV Discussion List (anyone here remember that?) about two years ago.

It would probably be too difficult to implement within EVO, but there is a work around: you arrive on a planet, and the mission text tells you to exit EVO, load up some other application (maybe DocMaker, maybe something else), type in a password and

What happens next depends on how far you want to go. For Frozen Heart, I just did text, but you could have a fully interactive Marathon session (the core code is freeware, and you can write your own games with it. See (url="http://"http://www.versiontracker.com")www.versiontracker.com(/url) for the openGL version that just came out.).

I know some other people were interested in doing this kind of thing, but I never saw the results.

A Marathon style adventure would really add some deep texture to EVO, and it would give the Marathon genre something that it really lacks -- context and a purpose beyond shooting everything in sight.

    • Oh yeah. That would work very nicely. I quite enjoyed the text diversions in FH, but taking on another scenario completly? Oh yes, somebody, please do this.

      ------------------

    • 😄 Yes! This is exactly what I've been considering! For instance, you play EV:O, board a ship, and then that launches Marathon, in a level where you capture a ship. Then you might take a special fighter mission, and X-Wing would load, or something. This is how games can seem more realistic, by having different types (1st-person shooter, overhead fighter, global strategy, side-scrolling, lots of things would work) of games within a scenario. This would be hard to implement, but it would Rule!

P.S. Marathon rules! And so does Frozen Heart! They're my favorite games! I'll stop using exclamation points now!

    • Martin makes a good point, but personally I'd rather see a 3D EV over regular EV with 3D interludes.

Sounds pretty cool, though. I can't find Marathon for OpenGL on versiontracker - if it's a shareware/freeware game, could some kind person email it to me?

    • Actually... It's being done as we speak. Check the Meowx.com website, look at Alexienth. It's not an interlude in the game, but in the story. See what you think.

    • ColdFusion, and anyone else who would like to know:

The Marthon engine (Marthon 2, to be exact) is being edited on as we speak, thanks to Bungie, who recently released the code. The new version is called Aleph-One, I believe, and will contain things like slanted polygons, platforms that move horizontally, a 3rd-person camera view, etc. Check it out at (url="http://"http://source.bungie.org/")http://source.bungie.org/(/url) . It's updated almost every day (a big plus), and it's so alive , whereas Marathon in general has been nearly dead. It's worth looking at!

    • I personally don't think this is a great idea. EVO is a great game because its simple, and there aren't big breaks in gameplay. It is constant stream, and if I have just ran a Voinian blockade and escaped two Crescent warships, I dont want to wait awhile for another program to load, than to load EVO again, than I land on another planet, etc., it would interrupt the whole sense of the game. It would make everything take longer, and I would quit. I would hate it. I do think that a mini simulator for taking over ships makes sense, but otherwise, no. (Once I tried capturing a shuttlecraft w/ a UE Cruiser and I failed). Maybe something like Sid Meier's Pirates in tkaing over ships. On the subject of Pirates!, I love that game, It's so much like EV/O.

If this was in the game you would not have to load it. Plus Idobut something like this would be in the game. Its just an idea.
