    • Hi, everyone......knew there was a good reason I kept my SE iMac after getting a 20" flat screen iMac running Panther. Not only does my 5-yr grandson use the old one, but I use it to run Ferazel after discovering it doesn't do well with Panther. I thought I messed things up when transferring data to my new computer from the old, so I tried to download the update several times. It stops just before completion every time. Has anyone else had this problem?

This certainly brings back very fond memories of when the board was a very active place and we all helped each other out.

On one hand, I'm indecisive; but on the other, I'm not.

    • Yeah, time stands still for no board. I'm holding off making any new levels until the Panther thing is resolved. Am I correct in thinking that as time goes by Panther will be updated to the point where Ferazel will run normally? Here's hoping.

As far as the banter on this board, I don't mind, but I don't see why people don't just make new topics. I mean things are honestly slow here, I would have no problem with moderators making entire topics for war games. But it is rather annoying when you want to find out the next piece of news regarding Panther and Ferazel, and you have to weed through fighting words. But I suppose fighting words are better than no words.

I thought I'd try loading FW on my PB just to see if I could get it to work in Classic (My PB is fairly new - G4, 1.25, so has a good graphics card and pretty fast processor). I had the same problem with the update - it would start to expand, but then an alert would come up saying it had been compressed in an unknown format. I think the problem is in the FW sprites file as it is just a generic looking icon.

      Any one have any solutions?

    • Regarding the update extracting problem: I talked to David Dunham (url="http://"http://www.ambrosiasw.com/webboard/Forum2/HTML/002659.html")through this topic(/url). He said:

      Hello-
I can't open that file on my 10.3 machine here either. It's a self extracting archive, so Stuffit isn't going to be the problem.
I'll forward this to the "proper authorities".

People will still put effort into keeping FW current...well, I'll be darned!

Now if we can just find someone to write a OS X version...

And as far as what you put in the "Help on the Way" topic...

The most recent update for Ferazel's Wand does not unstuff properly under Panther 10.3. Several people have reported it (MonsterLady included, and who can deny her? ), and I can confirm it. Stuffit works halfway and then brings up a failure message.

      Spammy, I'm flattered....

but really... Who can't deny me? 😉

      (No, seriously - I'd like a list... 😛 )

    • Hmmm... the update file STILL doesn't expand properly.

I think it is the "Ferezel's Wand Sprites" file that is not expanding correctly from the update package.

Does anyone have just that Sprite file that I can download?

(Don't email the file to my MonsterLady@Canada.com account - it's a free account and doesn't have any space left ;). Just email me a URL for downloading, or send me your email and I'll respond with a "real" account to email to.)

    • Curious... do you think there are enough people left who would care about an OS X-compatible Ferazel? I'm wondering if it's still worth looking into, now that I'm working on some OS X stuff. I'm upset to hear that a Classic update broke the game so badly... wonder what the change was.

      😄

Well, there's me. And my two sisters. Which counts as 1000 people. Plus everyone who visits these boards. And everyone who doesn't.

And look, (url="http://"http://www.ferazel.net/")ferazel.net(/url) has had 789 unique visitors. OK, maybe it's over a long period of time (a year?), but still, I think it's mostly level makers. Alright, bad example, never mind.

OS X-compatible would be awesome, but can you fix it to make it playable in Classic? Just that would be great (for now ;))!

It's sad to see a single Classic update kill such a great game.

    • Wow. Ferazel running well again would be simply great. My brother would probably agree, but he doesn't post here, much. It'd be a bit of a shame if all our hard work on levels went to waste. Although you'd probably have to talk to andrew about it, and that probably wouldn't be fun...

By the way, hurry up with the Electric Doormat CD, would you? 😄

Oh my god yes!! 😄 😄 That's the whole reason I stopped playing...never felt like booting into classic. It would help bring these boards and the game back to life.

I can't even boot into Classic. That's one of the cons of new Apple computers...

    • Considering Ferazel is my 'job,' I would cheer your efforts on all the way.

Unfortunately, a Classic MASCOT + OSX Ferazel would be doubleungood. An open source project would fix that. nudge 😉

    • I can think of quite a few people who would VERY much enjoy an OS X Ferazel! 😄 You can tell I'm one of 'em, 'cause I haven't made a post on this board in over a year. 😛

    • I have to say, it really warms my heart that so many people responded so quickly. Thank you so much for your continued interest in the game. People like you make it all worthwhile. I am going to do my best to figure out some kind of solution for Ferazel on 10.3 (or 10.4). Once I get that done I'm thinking about working on a new platform game project. Still 2D gameplay, but using 3D hardware acceleration. It'll be set up to be really easy to edit, and it will be able to import Ferazel levels. Wouldn't that be cool? Then any level that people might have made for Ferazel could be transferred to the new game engine and gussied up with crazy new features. What do you think?

I happen to think there is still a lot of life left in the Ferazel-style side scroller genre, but it's not being explored enough. There are so many cool possibilities that haven't been tried. I hope there are still some people out there who appreciate this style even while the rest of the world is brainwashing you to play Grand Theft Auto and suchlike.
