    • Parched Earth......again

Do you HAVE to pass through Parched Earth in order to access the levels on the left side of the map?...and if no....please tell me how to access them.

Also....being that i have this level as my nemesis....can you turn off the clock...because when i finally do make it through...and I will....sometime this millenium...i will be certifiable if it tells me go back...it's over 5 minutes.

      Ben...have some pity on a scorched resident....hehehe.

Unfortunately, yes - you do HAVE to pass through this level to move on. Sorry to tell you that!! There is a program that allows you to turn the timer off. It's called "The Game Doctor," but, you have to pay a small fee to acquire it. The hardest part in Parched Earth for everyone seems to be the rotating cannons. It's been posted on here a few times how to get through those quickly - it never worked for me and a few others, though - don't know why. I had to try a different strategy to get through and it took LOTS and LOTS and LOTS of practice. This level can drive you insane..... Good luck!!! 🙂

    • Alternatively, I can play through the level for you, with all your items intact (excepting multicrystals) and 100% of everything, like health, magic, secrets, enemies, and xichrons. I think there might be people who can fiddle with your saved game a little to magically place you after Parched Earth, but I could be wrong... all I can do is play through it. Still, that's better than never getting through it at all. 🙂

Take heart! It took me a month and 300 or so frustrating tries, and even I did it with a minute and twenty seconds to spare. Practice, practice and take advantage of the fact that it is possible to jump into the last cannon from off the wall and still make it in time. Good Luck!

I got so frustrated with this level. I did finally make it through 🙂 Timing is everything. The part that really got to me was the turning cannons after the pitch pit. I finally got them timed right. You have to jump into the turning cannon just as it hits its downward turn. It will take some practice It took me 3 days and I am in graduate school like I have the time 😛

    • Ok....i like a joke...but...enough already. I made it across parched earth to what i think is the end...major question....

Where is the switch to open that door just before the health pit? And no...i didn't make it in 5 minutes..but at least i know i'm on the right track.....HURRAH!!!

I really sort of hate to tell you this...but you have to make it through in five minutes or less in order to find the door open. Hey, the good news is that no switch is needed! 🙂

Actually, you're doing it right...you need to make several runs through the level before you start going for big speed. Practice going through each part until you get it down.

I did it..and I so suck at timing stuff. So you can do it! 🙂

I'm still trying to make my way through Parched Earth. I've made it to the end twice, but it took me forever. Little by little I'm getting better. My question is, "Do I need the speed powerup near the end?" It seems to me that I'll go faster, but that I'll hit a lot of spikes along the way. Should I be trying to jump them? I get to this area so rarely — spending most of my time at the rotating cannons, that I don't get enough practice. Any other tricks for that end run?

My feeling is that you don't really need the speed. It slows you down a lot just to go get it, so it's kind of a wash. I found that usually just using timing to go across the spikes when they are down is good enough. Probably most useful of all is to use the cannons near the end and bypass a string of orange blobs and spikes altogether. Good Luck! 🙂

    • At first, I thought everyone who said they made it through this level was lying. But then, I made it.

First, play the level through a few times and IGNORE THE CLOCK!!! Just get through it and become familiar with what's there. Tree Trunk can help in a few places if you fall out of cannons -- but not always.

At the very, very beginning you can use tree trunk to climb up and over the first cavern (where the purple pool of brine is enclosed), and by climbing up and over and entering Parched Earth, the clock does not appear. Still, you have five minutes to finish the level, so it only helps in taking the pressure off.

WHEN YOU'RE READY TO REALLY GO FOR IT:

      • IGNORE THE XIRCHONS. Just FINISH. You can come back for Xirchons later, exiting to the east when you've got them all and ignoring the clock.
      • IGNORE POWER UPS. You'd think they'd help, but don't go out of your way to get them. It can add a few extra seconds.
      • TAKE A FEW HITS. At the end, there are plenty of spiked balls. Just get the heck through them. If you have the health, just blow past them, taking a few hits along the way. Sure, it hurts like heck, but it can get you done quicker.
      • CANNOBALL RUN: Toward the end, there are several moving cannons that guide you to your destination. If you miss a canon, DON'T JUST SIT THERE. Run for it if you can, or run to the next cannon and keep moving!'
      • ARM YOURSELF WITH TREE TRUNK: Keep the TT spell active. It can help you out of a few jams along the way should you fall.

      Good Luck,
