    • imac display of ferazel

Hope this isn't too off topic. But someone might know. I installed ferazel on my imac cause my usual computer was busy. Well! Ferazel is so dark and murky I can hardly see it. Now, my usual imac display does not seem dark. I called apple support. They basically had me jump through the usual software hoops, then alleged that Ferazel had a preference control for brightness that I was too dumb to find. Guess I'm too dumb, but I can't find it. Then they said maybe I should have my monitor's internal brightness turned up by a service professional! Anyone else have problems seeing Ferazel on an imac? Does Ferazel have a brightness control?

    • Hmm, haven't had any reports of anything like that before. You might try adjusting the monitor's ColorSync profile (there's a control in Monitors & Sound) and see if that makes it any brighter. If you have a Gamma control panel that will give you finer control over the brightness level as well. Alternatively, you can try and just squint your way through the first few levels, as the outdoor ones that come afterwards are much brighter. Let me know if you find out any more about this problem.

Thanks for the reply,Ben. Did that. Also zapped pram. And did clean install. I think almost certainly the monitor has some sort of problem. What confuses me (and what made apple think that I was a nitwit) is that the imac desktop does NOT seem to be dark and murky. Ferazel runs great on my G3...just my imac that gives me probs.

Have you run Ferazel on an imac without any darkness and murkiness?

Any suggestions from anyone on how I can get Apple to believe I have a prob with my under warranty Imac?

    • I run Ferazel on an IMac with no murkiness or darkness problems.

    • I'm just relating my experiences with gamma due to the slight chance that it might be of help.

I tried the demo on an iMac DV Special Edition once (it was on T1 and I wanted to see what Ferazel was supposed to be like and how cool it was with everything turned on) and it worked fine. My 7200/75 running OS 8 only has gamma options ofr mac standard, page white and uncorrected. I used to use oncorrected since Mac standard seemed to make evrything look washed out, but now I've gotten sued to Mac standard and I use it. Those new macs and their umpteen million gamma setting tick me off cuz you never know if there's another one that might work better. Anyway, to get to the point, I noticed that Ferazel looks best in mac standard gamma and that you couldn't see some things very well in uncorrected.

However the gameplay should be no prob, its just the menu that look a little too dark. Wierd. If you haven't done so already try setting effects to reduced, that'll get rid of any lighting effects.
