I rescued Nimbo. I went back to his brother and he said he would give me a gift when I got into the mountains. When is this? I haven't finished If You Can't Stand the Heat or Ends of the Earth, but I have finished Fire in the Hole. I found his stash but, in the present game, I didn't touch it.

The mountains are north of the fire levels. You can get to the mountains (Ends of the Earth) before doing the fire levels, but you'll have to do some of the fire levels before you can get into the mountains -- if you ventured into Ends of the Earth, then you know it costs 20 Xichrons to pay the tollkeeper.
