    • A Couple Questions

I've started playing EV through a port for the Nova engine, as I have no prior experience with the game. That said:

      1. I've noticed that I can't purchase missiles or an afterburner. While I'm sure this must be a plugin issue, I want to make sure it's not a ship class restriction before I change plugs. (This has remained true for both a Clipper and an Argosy.)

      2. The guide on eVula's site extolls the virtues of pirating luxury liners, but they only seem to carry an average of 30k credits, which is a little less than a bulk freighter, and small change on my way to a Corsair. Which ships carry the most money, and if piracy is not as lucrative as it seems, what are the best money making schemes in EV? I'm particularly interested in Jünk trade routes.

      Thanks in advance

    • i got money by disabling corvettes with missles, they carry about 100,000 each and since their pirates ur rating go's up

      Not a ship-class restriction.

Are you able to purchase the afterburner with ANY ship?
      What about the missile launcher?
Obvious question, but... do you have enough credits and/or space in your ship to purchase the ordinance and it's launcher?

It could be a bug, but I doubt it.
Do you have any other plugins installed, other than EV?

Loot kestrels for their money. They have around 200,000, plus you can loot their ammo and cargo to sell.

You can take down a kestrel in a very light ship. You just need a torpedo launcher and... I think it's 12 torpedos. That's enough to disable a kestrel. Corvette takes six, Argosy takes three, if I remember correctly. An afterburner helps.

A good, some-what safe system to loot pirates in is the empty one between Zaxted and Sirius (I can't remember the name).

    • I made sure there were no free space or credit issues before I posted. I think there's a conflict between the graphics plug I'm using to Nova-ise EV's graphics and the EV emulator itself. I'll have to sort that out.

As for pirating, I've been thinking about trading my Argosy in for a faster, lighter ship. I can tank Confed frigates with my armor upgrade and torpedos, but I get absolutely hosed by Confed gunships that outmanouvre me. The same goes for Corvettes, as they're much faster. Is this a wise choice?

    • IIRC you can't have any other plugins other than the ones for EV. If you still have problems with the afterburner issue, you might try PMing Guy. He's got all the answers. Really. 🙂

It's always a good idea to upgrade your ship. As the missions progress they get harder, and you will need all the shielding you can get. Plus, the larger the ship, the more crew you have, making it easier to capture ships.

But remember, the heavier your ship, the slower you will go, the more shielding you need. You won't be able to escape faster ships that easy.

Try capturing a few escorts, especially kestrels. Their fighters can take care of the smaller ships while you deal with the larger ones.

If all you want to do is loot ships right now, I'd keep a smaller ship but try to get the afterburner and just use torpedos. You don't even need shields. I used a shuttle upgraded with afterburner and fuel pod, until I had enough credits to fully outfit a kestrel, then I captured larger and larger ships until I got that kestrel.

      Good luck.

Additional: I never traded the junk items. They were too far away from each other to be lucrative. Try buying medical supplies (I think at New France?), and then selling them at Lethe.

    • if you get a corvette and give it all the the engine upgrades it almost gets 700 top speed, making it one of the fastest ships, and then u but a laser turret and torpedos and its a really good ship, also it has a decent crew so you can capture ships

Trading is the easiest way of making money: Adhara (rebel planet down from pollux) to Lethe and back again : Medical there - Industrial back (something like this because the item is being sold for a medium price a lethe to a high price at Adhara <-- I don't even know if thats the planets name :()
I wouldn't hire escort in the port just capture them: Cargo haulers are the best (have 350 cargo space) but they can be easily disabled (helpful when capturing them but not on the actual run) also because of Nova's game engine when you have 6 traders nothing happens 🙂 (in the original pirates would come if you got more then 2 plus you couldn't get cargo haulers easily)

Hope I've helped? + Apologies for ship names/planets that have been spelt wrong as a did play this game to death but haven't done so in a while (EVO port anyone?)

    • I looked into the Afterburner Outfit and it had a Require 1A (A1?) I then looked at the outfit contribute fields of several of the ships. The Argosy had the 1A blank. The Corvette had it checked. The Lt. Freighter had it blank. Just in case, I just started a new pilot and bought a light freighter (ok, I have a million dollar cheat in place because I hate to wait) and it also won't let you buy the Afterburner. Amongst others, the Kestrel also does not have the 1A box checked.

I am guessing the creators thought that big ships were too big for Afterburners. The Corvette is big but it doesn't cross the line and so you can get an Afterburner for it.

    • Ah, I was away when this topic was around. But yes, I do have answers 🙂

rEV was an unfinished project. The guy who was making it lost motivation until it reached the point where he wasn't going to be working on it any further so decided to just release what he had, which was really still in beta. All the graphics for the base data were complete though, so it still served as an awesome graphics replacement if you chose to just use the original data rather than any of the feature enhancements. To actually answer the original question, one of the new features was an attempt at a ship class hierarchy which primarily resulted in a few outfits (such as the afterburner) being designated for 'small' ships only, albeit without an in-game explanation.

Now the whole thing was designed for the official EV port and wasn't exactly compatible with my own port (which wasn't around at the time). I eventually decided to make a new version of rEV to be compatible with EV Classic for Nova and at the same time attempt to fix and finish some of the feature enhancements. One of the things I've changed is the afterburner which is now available for all ships again but its mass varies depending on your ship's mass. Follow the link in my sig to find the current state of this version of rEV.
