Hey that reminds me, do you (Tim) have the complete set of those Resolution ships (the original picts)? I know there aren't many of them but they aren't hosted anywhere anymore.

I assume you are refering to the designs used for the Saa'rellian Union faction? Unfortunately I don't have the original sized shipyard pictures, as I shrunk them down to "fit in" with some of the old EVO 3D ships and outfit pictures I used.

      Regards,

      Tim

    • No, not the Starcraft ones, I mean the EV style ones - Argosy, Mod-Argosy, Empire Interceptor and Frigate, ECU Destroyer and Cruiser. Also the Scavenger Fighter and Cruiser. I think there was also a Light Freighter in the set (matching the original EV Light Freighter) but you don't appear to have used that. If you have any of the original PICTs (shipyard, sprites, whatever) for any of these that would be great 🙂

    • Help! I got a Archive Verification failed. And after several warnings: Unknown archive format. Engine error. Unknown Format. What gives? Did Tim compress it incorrectly? And I had so waited that I would finally be able to get fixed Neutron Torps. Finally get Neutron Torpedoes. And see which other ones he had- such as the fixes and tweaks. And the eye candy. I would see if it would be even more beatiful- now its already so beatiful I get captivated. And I thought I would already have seen it all. Halp! (humorous ending).

I tried to redownload it, and I still get archive verification failed (twice, as before, just hadnt noted), and this time a new error: Format Error. This is a edit.

Tim, in just what did you compress it? If I open it with StuffIt Standard instead of Expander, I get a verification failed immediately on opening and then nothing to expand. This is really bad- usually I get 0 bytes files, when I have problems,l but when you dont even get the files... Note well- I dont even get the format as error as with Expander. So I have really bad luck- I dont even get error messages.

Oh, and one addition to my Wikipedia-ish project to edit over and over again, to make it more accurate (some of the errors were false)and contain more info. I have edited and edited it uncannily over and over again, more than I usually do and ever did. I have used Quick Edit to make sure anybody else hasnt replied yet, which is unusual. All this speed is causing stress to my calm nature. I have StuffIt 9.5.

    • Because I have dial up I asked Mackilory to DL it and then send me separate files. Looks like they all expanded fine for him. If you don't get your questions answered, email Tim directly; he doesn't check this thread every day.

    • Running Mac OS X 10.4.A on my G4 400, the decompression failed when I tried to download it through Safari.

    • Try Firefox for X, and well see, kupo.

    • Firefox 404's it, :S

By the way, if anyone wants to email him about this problem, I tried emailing him but my message didn't get delivered so there might be something wrong with his email, so until Tim responds to this thread about this download issue, well, we're kind of screwed for the moment.

Ah, I see which ones you mean.

Email me with at ethology101 at yahoo dot com with a list of exactly what you need as I have them all archived.

      Regards,

      Tim

Umm Tim... we are here too. Me and Coraxus. How about our expansion problems?

The beta tester was stuffed into zip format using the most recent version of DropStuff which is 11.0.2 (build 627). It opened perfectly with Stuffit Expander (again, v 11.0.2) so you might want to try downloading the most recent versions or try using a different browser.

I checked the link using both my older eMac (9.2.2, Netscape) and my new MacBook (10.4.10, Firefox; Safari) and it works flawlessly.

Let me know if you can't download it and I can always send it to you by www.yousendit.com or similar service.

I just responded to them - let me know if the information was of any use. It's a different time zone over here in the UK so I'll check back in the evening, about six hours from the time of this post.

Was it ethology101 (at) yahoo (dot) com?

Anyhow I just responded to the compression question - let me know if it proves to be of use.

    • The download finally worked, thanks.

    • The download doesnt still work after all you suggested. I get files at 0 bytes inside the archive , so I never have any files to begin with. To get with workarounds.

Whoa, whoa, this is not good. Zipping with DropStuff is identical to zipping from the Finder - it uses AppleDouble encoding rather than Macbinary. The result is that it's impossible to extract on Windows. I mentioned it before but I'll mention it again: Try Plugin Archiver 2, from the link in my sig 🙂

Also, the Read Me needs to be saved as RTF. The old SimpleText way of 'styled text' uses resource forks to store the styling information which of course can't be used on Windows, but more importantly the line breaks get screwed up on Windows.

Oh, and a couple of tips for saving space:
You have many duplicate 'Shipmaker' picts. These picts are all referenced explicitly by the ship descs so you can easily tell a whole bunch of ships to all use the same pict.
Most of the RLEs in the Ships files are sprites already available in the Nova data files. Since HaS is structured as a plug-in rather than a TC you can easily just reference the existing sprites without having to have a copy of them in your own files.

I sent you an email about the requested ships, btw 😉

I have v7.0.3 and the files unstuffed fine. Though, I did have one minor problem upon expansion, with my finder not recognizing the file icons. I just restarted my comp and everything was normal.

    • I think he's on Windows 😉

Btw, you shouldn't need to restart. I use this handy little thing called FileUtilsCM - if I have a file which seems to be lacking the proper icon I can just right-click on it and go Refresh then presto!, icon appears :). Of course newer versions of Expander should prevent that from happening at all. You should be able to use the latest free Expander while still keeping your StuffIt Deluxe 7.

Try the download link now - it is the same name, I simply uploaded a more Windows-friendly zipped archive.

Let me know if this helps.

I recompressed the test plug using that aplication and uploaded it under the same name so the most current link will still work.

Taken care of - is now RTF.

Received, and I'll email you those ships tomorrow.

Thanks for the tips and hopefully players should be able to decompress the archive now.

    • Love the beta, Tim. The weapons and ship are great. Will there ever be anything like an inhabited outpost in that huge expanse to the east? Have you coded any storyline missions yet? I can help with writing dësc resources, if you need.

Overall, great plug, like the previous Empire ones I've played. I can't wait until it becomes an official plug.
