    • I'm an Idiot N00b. I've got Questions!

Long time EVN player, first time EVC player

I'm a long long time NOVA player. I feel that I've completely and utterly beaten, mastered, etc. every aspect of that game, and now I'm interested in playing EVC.

I've played for about 15-16 hours in the past 3 days, building up a "Prime" pilot.
(A pilot with no ties to any mission strings, and which has lots of money and a nice ship)

I've made several copies of this Prime, so I don't have to go through the monotony of trading and doing the mindless missions associated with starting a new pilot.

So...yeah. I I've got questions! Don't worry about spoiling it for me.

      • How many mission strings are there?
So far, I know about the (Con)Fed and Rebel strings...

      • How do I get rid of my escorts that I don't want?
I cant seem to hi-light them and release them. Specifically, I have a few clippers that I want to get rid of. The only way I know. is to make them hold position in front of an asteroid, and place a space bomb over it, and kill it.
      • There must be another way! Right?

**• What's the first rebel mission? What's the first fed mission?
      • If there's another string besides the 'Fed and Rebel strings?
      • Are there medium strings/ lead-in strings like the Wild Geese string from nova? **

      • Is there a EV-C version of theNOVA Walkthrough?

      I've got the following:
A Kestrel, stolen from a pirate:
      5 Proton cannons
      2 Missile Racks + 40 Missiles
      1 Bomb Rack + 20 Space Bombs
      Shield Capacitor & Shield Booster
1 layer of Tritanium & 1 layer of Armorplast
Thrust Enhancement, Engine Upgrade, and RCS Upgrade
      1 Ram-scoop + 2 external fuel tanks
Density Scanner, IFF Decoder, Missile Jammer
1 Flare Launcher and 50 Decoy Flares
      My ship's trade-in value is 4.71Mcr

      I also have 15.36Mcr.
(I was saving up to buy and outfit Kestrel, but was able to capture one instead)
      My combat rating is Dangerous.

I don't want the forklift. I've played with it, but find it to be way too overpowered. I don't like that sort of cheating. I link information and spoilers. I don't like God-Mode.

      • Would it be worth it to get a Rebel destroyer?

      • Are ship capture odds based solely on crew? What is the equation for determining capture odds? Is it the same as in EV-N?

      • I'm plying unregistered, because I've got 6 bucks in my debit account, and I don't get paid for another 2 weeks. Will I not get to complete the mission strings because of it?

Thanks for whatever answers or commentary or whatever you can offer.

    • - There are only the Confed and Rebel main strings in the base scenario. There are a couple of smaller strings you can do regardless of faction - Diphidia, The Artemis Group, and maybe one or two others I forget. But in terms of major strings in the base scenario there's just the Confed and Rebel ones.

      - Hold down Option / Alt as you scroll through the ships in system, that way it will also select escorts. Then open communications and Release From Servitude.

      - It's always worth getting a Rebel Destroyer if you can, it's awesome.

      - Ship capture % is entirelybased on crew.

      - EV was not crippleware like Nova, you can complete it without registering. Captain Hector will start getting pissy if you wait longer than 30 days.

Why don't you play the Nova port of EVC?

Good for you! Welcome to the real EV!

      For the major Rebel/Confederate missions:
      - For the Rebels, look in the bar for someone to drop a napkin telling you to go to Hanger 94.
      - For the Confeds, look in the bar for a time when you sit sipping a Samarian Sunset.

You will also have other smaller strings for the Rebels and Confeds. They will get you various weapons at the end. These could happen before or after the major missions, but usually before. There's also several single missions that will help you side with one of the governments, and several that you can continue doing after the major missions.

Try EVula's Survival Guides. I haven't looked at them thoroughly, but I think they'll be adequate. If not, don't worry. EV is much less complicated than EVN, but just as good (if not better).

      • Would it be worth it to get a Rebel destroyer?

Hell yes. It's my favorite buyable ship. I've been able to upgrade them to defeat Confed Cruisers (yes, plural). The R.S.S. Destroyer E is a Rebel Destroyer. I love it very, very much.

If you don't like it, you can always get yourself a Cruiser. With the trade in price of the Destroyer, it shouldn't be bad.

      You're welcome!

    • There is also a side string avail at Evildrome (or one of the other pirate worlds) that allows you to work for a courier service, providing missions for $75,000 each. It starts when some guy asks if you have a fast ship and could you take him to, um, Blackthorne, I think.

Once you play through EV, try some of the incredible plugins, like:

      Empire w/o End
      Empire of Crime
      Heart of Darkness
      E2: Dark Horizons
      E3: Endgame
      BOK
      Realm of Prey
      Mugabi and Destiny
      Angels of Vengeance
      Clavius and Beyond
      Eye of Orion
      Pale

    • My favorite part of the old ev was battling the aliens. That required true piloting skill. That should be the measure of a good pilot, either beating the aliens or taking out ravens in a shuttle.

    • I was never blown away at all by the base universe in EV. It's the expansion plugins - Pale, Galactic Scourge and particularly EVGE that make it the amazing game it truly is.

      BOK

      That's BO T K, not BOK.

      Anyways, turrets rule!

    • Capture odds are based mostly on crew, but also on the tech level difference between your ships. However you can't see the tech levels of ships unless you look at the data files in res edit.

If you're smart you can play all the missions with one pilot. Accept both the rebel and confed starting missions before completing either of them and you'll end up in both storylines.

I'd also advise against doing the switching sides missions.

      Cham

    • I think capturing odds are also affected by the damage of the ship when you board it. If the ship is on the verge of explosion (like one shot away), your odds will be lower.

And once upon a very rare moment, I captured a Confed Cruiser in a Kestrel. It was 1% odds. I was amazed.

    • The Confed Frigate was always my favorite ship, just ahead of the Confed Cruiser and the Confed Gunboat.

      Ravens?

      yawns

    • Probably means Kestrel. Though I remember a plug-in that included additional ships of similar design, including a Raven.

    • I captured a Confed Cruiser in a scoutship once. It had gotten disabled by a Rebel strike force; I snuck in, boarded, captured, and hobbled back to base, at which point I sold that crappy ship and got myself a Corvette. 🙂

    • I never had luck capturing ships, so after a while I gave up trying. Too bad there wasn't a special ship where instead of credits, fuel or weaps, you could take the crew.

Destroyer E: The Lenos are starting to give me a headache. Please give them back to Mazca.
