    • Absolutely. The original EV engine supported four weapons as stock on a ship. The Confed Cruiser has a Patrol Ships, proton turrets, neutron blasters, and torpedoes. The Rebel Cruiser has Mantas, Proton turrets, missiles, and heavy rockets. The Frigate and Destroyer have heavy rockets, torpedoes, missiles, and proton turrets.

    • Besides the escort carrier, the Rebels lack a ship slower than the Confed frigate (I think).

Besides fighters, the Confeds lack a ship faster than the Rebel Cruiser.

EVC Rebel Destroyers Forever! Cruisers for when the destroyers disappear.

    • Besides the fact that a cruiser and a destroyer are often found together.

I somehow mixed up frigates and cruisers...sorry...

That used to happen to me in the first times I would play EV (I was 8 at the time). I couldn't tell the targets apart. Then I'd see one of them, and be like "Oh, it's one of the big guys." Heh, good times...

    • In the right hands, with the right tactics, a rapier can outfight a Confed Cruiser.

      EVula's Notes:
The Frigate is a truely formidable ship. It is fast enough to be able to deal with fighters effectively, it has heavy weaponry, and its shields are nothing to laugh at. Although it can be defeated by a Rebel Destroyer, it is still a good ship to fly (or have as an escort).

      Quote

      EVula's Notes:
The Cruiser's armament of 4 Patrol Ships gives the cruiser the upper hand in a battle versus a Rebel Cruiser. Its neutron blasters are useless unless you charge at it from its front. Its torpedos can nail you from a good distance away, while its fighter fleet pecks away at you. However, it is incredibly slow, so you never have to worry about outrunning one.

      Quote

      EVula's Notes:
The Destroyer is, despite what the description says, very capible of taking out a Frigate, due mainly to its speed. This is a fast ship, when compared to other ships in its class. When 2 or 3 Destroyers are paired with 2 Cruisers, the effects can be devastating.

      Quote

      EVula's Notes:
By itself, the Rebel Cruiser isn't that hot of a ship. Capable of standing up to most ships, it really shines when it is used as a support craft for Rebel fleets. It is then that it can fire its many missiles, as well as deploy its 4 Mantas. In close range, it can use its proton turrets and rocket launchers to do even more damage.

      AI Matchup

      Rebel Destroyer > Confederate Frigate

      Rebel Cruiser < Confederate Cruiser

      Player Matchup

Rebel Destroyer > Confederate Frigate, Cruiser

Rebel Cruiser > Confederate Frigate, Cruiser

If you don't believe the AI matchup, play the game. You will see that the Rebel Destroyer does, in fact, beat the Confederate Frigate.

As for using them as player ships, the Rebels are teh pwnz.

Plus, Hamster drives the Rebel Cruiser. 🆒

    • I would drive one, but I always stray back to the Kestrel. Occasionally, I just keep my SUPERARGOSY and work up a fleet of Kestrels to fight for me. Kinda fun sometimes.

    • I always use to have fun firing 1 shot from the laser cannon at a Confed Cruiser (while in a shuttle), and then laughing about how out-going the Cruiser was in launching all its weapons and patrol ships to take me down. Wow.

    • Are you all kidding me? The Confederate Cruiser is definitly better. Forget what it stands for or how it looks. It takes a beating, and dishes out twice the punishment. If properply equiped, and it can hold A LOT, I've never lost a fight, even against a handful of cruisers.

Of course it also depends on the pilot's skill. If you can't handle the ship how can you handle the fight?

    • Ooh...touche.

      <EDIT>
Oh, and Cody...please don't make below-the-belt renarks in a friendly discussion like this, ok? I (by myself...my words don't reflect the opinions of anyone other than myself) have been trying to keep my replies legitimate, well-informed, peaceful, and debate-style, rather than flaming...even if yours isn't really a flame, it still irks me. I happen to be sure that I could beat you with a Rebel Cruiser.

Besides the fact that, in my opinion, the Confederate Cruiser is Friggin' ugly in comparison. I'm more partial to fast-looking, gracefully designed ships that look fragile but pack more of a punch than one would expect. The Confederate cruiser was very obviously designed for the purpose of destroying.

The point I'm making here is that while you might be content flying a Confed ship, I am not. I like to play fast, and almost always play with Caps Lock on, just because the game is too slow as is, and a Rebel Cruiser meets those speed needs.

I did try a Confed one a couple times...but I just like the Rebel one better.

Your points are all valid, WickTownEV, but I don't stand by them.

Hamster, I like your division of the AI into < and >, and I'm glad you did some good research into the subject and resented it here. Thanks.

This topic has sparked a new flame in me. I may not be the only one to do it, but I'm at least going to offer my services to whomever will lead us to victory, and program and design (or help do so) EV Online. Then I can finally, once-and-for-all prove my point that I am a good pilot of a Rebel Cruiser, and that, at least for me, everything falls at the hands of my Rebel Cruiser.

Sorry for the long post...but yeah...it was necessary.

Whew, I got it all out. Yay!

Feel free to comment on grammar, etc. I don't care. I may follow your suggestions and change my grammar, etc.

    • My apologies Dash_Merc, I didn't mean to sound offensive, it just that I got really excited about EVC. So excited that I've even polished it off and started playing it again.

But sadfully I will conceed that the Rebel Cruiser most definitley does look better.

I have to disagree with the Destroyer beating the Frigate. Generally, if both ships are alone, that is there are no pirates and no other Rebels or Confeds in the system, they fight to a draw; that is, they both leave each other disabled. I have seen this happen many, many times in Propus especially (one of my favourite hangouts). Occassionally, one side will destroy the other and get away, with very little or no shields, but most of the time, they both end up disabled or destroyed (or one of each). Of course, I know all of this from EV 1.0.2, so perhaps in 1.0.5 it is a little less balanced, but the fact that they would disable each other was always handy for plundering.

    • I once saw the Frigate and the Destroyer disable each other. I decided to not loot them both.

Hahahahaha... I love it when they do this. If you're trying to not tick off one side or the other, then leave them alone. But if you don't care, then it's the best chance to take them over.

Oh, erikthered I've been playing with 1.0.5 and they still disable each other all the time if undisturbed. So you're right.

    • Hmm... Perhaps my and EVula's analysis was based on a pre-1.0.2 or seperate game version.

      checks
      Ha! I didn't know I had EV 1.0.0! That explains it... 😛
