      Sell Lightning Bay Plug

I'm porting EV Classic on a PC with EV Nova and need a plugin to sell a lightning bay. I've done searches but can't find one. Any suggestions out there?

Edit: While doing more searches, I found someone explaining how he would outfit a Kestrel. He said "keep the lightnings". This implies that one can get rid of them. I though that I might be mistaken that the bay is unsellable. So, I took a tour of all the outfitters in the Galaxy and found squat. Then I realized that in Nova, not all outfits appear everytime one lands. Sometimes one must leave a system and return to find it. Perhaps EV Classic works the same way, so I took another couple tours of the most likely outfitters and still found squat. I did another search through the add-ons page but the closest I found was a plug which made several different versions of the Kestral available for sale. I find it hard to believe no one has ever tried getting rid of the bay. Any comments would be appreciated.

    • In Nova, sell the Kestrel bay in Sirrusa in the Archenar system. You can sell anything at Sirrusa. I sold the bay first thing because I don't like escorts on domination efforts and sure don't need any with a properly equipped Kestrel.

Of course if you are trying to sell in EV Classic, I have no clue.

    • Making the lightning bay sellable is very easy, so you don't have to wait for someone to find you one.

      Step 1: Get an editor.
Resedit (with Novatools, thought you don't really need it for this) or Mission Computer will do the job for people with Macs. For PCs, use EVNEW.

      Step 2: Create the plug-in
Especially if you use MC or EVNEW, you can just select the option for creating a Nova plug-in. While you have that open, open up the classic data files, open the outf resource, and find the outfit that you're looking for... in this case, the lightning bay.

Set it's techlevel to any number between 1 and 5. Any planet with this techlevel or higher (or if it has a specialtech of your number) will be able to sell your outfit. If you want it to be consistant with the lightning fighter, just open the fighter resource up and check it's techlevel.

Finally, that guy probably said to "keep the lightnings" because though you can sell the lightnings, that doesn't give you any advantage. Most people don't like having fighters because when they die, you have to shell out a huge amount of money to replace them. Thus, if they could sell the fighter bay, they would.

      That help?

    • Three months later and I still haven't found one. I hope you don't consider this grave digging, but I've been busy...

Edit: Sorry, some of us don't have an aptitude for things like plugs or resource files. Believe me, I tried.

the bay is un sell-able. You can sell the lightnings, but not the bay itself. no planet will offer to buy them, just as no planet will sell them to you. So if you really want to get rid of them, your only option is a plug.

I know you don't want to hear this, but it really is rather easy to do. Give it a try, what's the worst that can happen? 🙂

    • Another thing to consider: the lightning bay doesn't actually have any mass. Since it was designed to be non-buyable/sellable, it wasn't necessary to have it take up any space on the players ship. So, even if you make a plug-in to allow it to be sold, there will be no benefit at all.

Of course, you could give the bay some mass, but you'd just be making up a number.

    • You probably haven't tried to make a plug if you can't do it. Especially using the NOVA port, it'd be a snap. (Nova doesn't like it when player's outfits don't exist. EV didn't mind)

      1. Get EVNEW (Or whatever works on a PC, I've never used it, but everything should be similar.)
      2. Open it.
      3. "Create New plug"
      4. Open the EV (classic) data file
      5. Find the outfit section
      6. The lightning bay should be near the bottom, with the Hawk bay. If it's not there, it'll be near the Manta or Patroll ship bays, but in all there are only like 6 bays in the game. Check them all if you have to.
      7. Copy the lightning bay outfit over to your plug. DON'T EVER EDIT THE DATA FILE. Especially when you claim to be unable to make yourself a plug.
      8. Give the thing a price (probably 2 mil. or so to be realistic. I think the Hawk bay is somewhere around there, a lightning bay should be more expensive.)
      9. And a weight. (Again, try to be realistic. You could make it something rediclous like 500 or something, but the 75-125 range is more what you're looking at.) "Weight" is also "Mass."
      10. Change the tech level, and if nessecary, avail. bits. The bits you can just deleate, while the availability needs to be within the range of possible. 1 will make the bay available everywhere, I think 16 is only on Luna... Research it some.
      11. Save, drop in your plug spot, quit and start playing again! That whole procedure would only take me 5 minutes, and I'd do it for you if I were capable of translating it to PC, and were on my computer right now. And had somewhere to put it...
