My question is. Can I keep my Kestal and buy more fighter spacecraft to form my own fleet. I ask as I do not wish to lose the Kestal I already own which is fully fitted out the way I like it. But I don't know what to do with all the credits I have amassed. Some missions need more that one vessel to complete the job. I find hiring escorts from the sportsbar expensive and they are trageted by priates.
Could somebody please advise.

That is a good method, but it can make you unpopular and does cost a lot initially. Going after pirates is usually a little better. Plus, you can steal credits, ammo, and cargo before you capture (although it increases the chances of failure). Escorts don't usually have much to steal.

My failure rate at capturing pirates at this time is very high. Clippers are quite easy, but very docile, but can carry gargo, Corvettes on the other hand seem harder to capture. I had some success, but they need to be controlled. Kestals seem impossible at this time. For some missions it seems neccessary to have an armed fighter unit with you. Missions that send me up against whole armies which out number me 10 to 1is suicide. Or am I missing something?

Don't go charging into the middle of them all. Circle, taking out fighters, and then take on one ship at a time. It may be necessary to hire out extra escorts, but if you take your time and avoid the brunt of the enemy fire, you should be okay.
