Although the subject of which I'm speaking of is not related to EV directly, (url="http://"http://www.hyperiums.com")Hyperiums(/url) is much like an online EV (browser-based). I was going to post this over at the B&B;, but Hyps has always been most attractive to EV players since it's basic and freakin' addictive. Plus all the folks I want to join hang out here anyway.
So, on to my point. (url="http://"http://www.hyperiums.com")Hyperiums is(/url) (like I said) a browser-based strategy and economic expansion game, with plenty of military action to go around (much like an advanced board game). Although you never actually see any of the battles take place in some type of animated queue that you'd otherwise witness in EV, Hyperiums will have you hooked the minute you start participating. I joined back in December after a buddy on GameRanger told me about... ever since 15 of my other GR friends have sinced join. It's obviously getting popular.
Anyway, I'm in the process of recruiting players for a new alliance I have formed. It is called APPLE (as the public tag... full name is Apple Computer Alliance) and will be comprised of Mac users only (another reason why I'm posting this here). I've rapidly become a powerful player in the games with loads of cash and a massive military, so I'm now ready to host an alliance for newcomers to not only get them invovled in a massively-fun game but help get them on their feet.
As for the game in general, it has about 6000 players (it was around 4000 a few months back) spread across a massive galaxy. The game has been around since 1999 and each year a new version is released with more improvements.
Before you ask, you get a 60-day trial period to play Hyps, then you have to pay $4 for 3 months of play (the more you pay, the more time credits you get). The cool part is that I've never had to pay real cash for the game... you can use the money you earn in Hyperiums to buy time credits from other players. Kinda cool.
This is a graphical version of a very small sector of the galaxy... etron is my capital, and Apocalypse and Xion are my two other primary core worlds. Most of my immediate neighbors are either in another alliance I'm in (SCARE - Serious Canidates for Alliance Recruitment and Expansion) and I do a lot of trading with them.
My cash page showing my total income, military costs and other financial stats for one of my planets (Zuronium). I actually have 14 planets total, etron being my best which makes 171mil. a day.
Hyperiums also has a large technology tree. The more money you start making, the more you'll have to invest into cool techies that you can use to earn the upper hand over your enemies (such as anti-drop mines, better fighting effeciency, fleet upgrades, stasis fields, energy enhancements, scanning ability etc.).
Overview of a few of my planets...
Xion's trade page. This planet is very developed with lots of income. The more cash you invest into more production units, the more units you'll have to trade and make a profit off of. Not only that, but if you start trading with your own planets, the receiving planet can make a profit off the import taxes too. Trade is one of many ways you can wage war in Hyperiums. If you've got a good economy, your game rankings improve.
Ah yes, one of my larger fleets... 1200 destroyers and 60000 scouts awaiting to wage war with a neighboring alliance attempting to conquer my core worlds. The battle went well... I managed to beat off 12 other players since they don't have a 12th of the military I do.
Something else that's really cool is infiltrating - you can attempt to basically take over another planet through secretive operations that overthrow the government. Or if you're good at it, you can take the planet captive and steal away much of its income...
Other features are forming / joining alliances, developing advanced teleporting capabilities to rapidly transfer GAs (ground armies) to other planets, building bombers for your fleets to destroy the economic health of hostile planets, private messaging system... the list goes on. The deeper you go into the game, the better it gets.
So, if you're interested, sign up at the (url="http://"http://www.hyperiums.com")Hyperiums website(/url) and join the madness. I'm sick of all my alliance buddies driving me insane about being one of the few Mac users around, so I need a lift. Anyhow, anyone who joins can request to join my alliance (APPLE), and I'll then start providing financial aid and even try finding you some new planets to get you on your feet. If you love EV, you'll love Hyperiums.
If you do join and want to message me, my username in Hyperiums is "Skyblade".
Feel free to ask any questions. Check it out!
