Sorry, this doesn't fit exactly to the topic, but there are a LOT of possible questions. Do you really want them packed into one topic?
SOmeone might answer Q's 1 and 2, then there is another answering #4, then a new question comes up...
Do you see, why I (and some others) want to have a board with sub-threads?

Answers:
1. Palshife, right after you destroy an Alien cruiser.
2. The Confeds consider themselves to be the moral guardians of the galaxy. Just kill a few pirates near 'Fed systems and they'll like you again.
3. May not have enough memory allocated. I use VM and allocate about 20 MB to EV. That's enough for most plugs, even the big ones.
4. Just save the pilot file. An extra copy or two doesn't hurt, especially if you are doing "Strict Play".
T.O.P.
I just wanted to ask about the time required for hyper-jumps. I miss the speed that my scoutship had. How do you know in advance what hyperspace speed a ship has? Two days for a covette is ok, but it would be great if I could buy an upgrade. Also, I think that the speed is limited by the slow one in the convoy, so it would be nice to know what to expect, so you can choose who to keep and who to release.

Hyperspace time is determined by the mass of the ship. If the mass is less than 100 tons, hyperjumps take 1 day. If it is between 100 and 200 tons, the jumps take 2 days; if it is greater than 200, jumps take 3 days. This is of your ship, only. Escorts are not factored in as far as I can tell. In other words, a scoutship with bulk freighter escorts will only take 1 day to jump. CMIIW.
Although there are no outfits to change the amount of time it takes to jump in stock EV or EV:O, many plug-in authors have created outfits of that sort.
Jump time is also unrelated to the ship property in EV:O that alters how long it takes a ship to enter hyperspace.

Ah, the number of escorts! I had about six in tow when I missed the delivery deadline for an emergency medical supply run. I was blaming the Argosy for being slow. If I had looked at the date right after I had blasted off my last stop, I would have figured out that I had already messed up.
Thank you two (WD and msalter) for the information. I already had reservations about Kestrels because they are significantly slower than corvettes (and thus outfitted will be slower than an outfitted corvette), and now I'll have to consider the jump time too. I'll also have to keep my escort fleet trimmed down.
Cheers and happy hunting.

Does Ambrosia ever plan to update EV again? Ever since EVO was released, EV hasn't changed...
Nope. EV will never be updated again. However, EVO is still a 'living' game; it gets updates every once and a while.

Doesn't Ambrosia have plug-ins for EV?

Ambrosia itself doesn't have any plugs. Other authors create plugs, which are usually available on the escape velocity website. Since Ambrosia is changing the site, they will not be available for a while.

I need some help an am new to this fantastic game:
1. I am trying to defeat the aliens in the alien mission and cannot do it. No weapon I possess or have tried seems to work. I have the particle beam.
2. How can I get the tractor beam or the cloaking device.
3. Is the alien mission the last confederation mission.
4. If question 3 is true, then are there other missions in the orginial, i.e. for the rebellion.
5. How can I change sides so that the rebellion offers me missions.
6. Lastly, I completed the Artemis mission, do they offer anymore missions.
Thanks in advance for your help

Do the Rebel missions.
3. Is the alien mission the last confederation mission.
It's the last in that string.
4. If question 3 is true, then are there other missions in the orginial, i.e. for the rebellion.
Yep.
5. How can I change sides so that the rebellion offers me missions.
They have to like you first. It'd probably be easiest with a different pilot.

Somewhat on the same subject, I am flying some Rebellion missions and failed the last mission in the Astrodyne (spelling?) string (I blew it up, OK?). If I keep transporting weapons and doing other nice things for the Rebellion, will I get another chance, or was there only that one (chance/prototype/whatever)? Or would I have to go back to the start of the string (drat, where was I when I was solicited for that one)?
Mourning my own incompetence,

Thanks for answering but your answers were more cryptic than the game seems to be. Could you provide more detail to the questions. Also, can I get all three of the special weapons on one ship. Thanks again from a newbie,
Joey

1. I am trying to defeat the aliens . . . .
Don't know, haven't flown it.
2. How can I get the tractor beam or the cloaking device.

Answered by someone else.
4. If question 3 is true, then are there other missions in the orginial, i.e. for the rebellion.
6. Lastly, I completed the Artemis mission, do they offer anymore missions.
Ooh, ooh, I know this one. There are several mission "strings" in the game, some short, some long. Spaceport bars are where to look, mostly.
In regard to 6, weren't you given more instructions? I can't remember, but I thought that at the end of transporting your passenger he suggests checking in again somewhere, though I forget now where. Maybe Sauron? Or did you mean that you finished up with the pirates, Joseph sound familiar?
5. How can I change sides so that the rebellion offers me missions.
To make them like you, you have to run missions and kill pirates in their systems. It might take a while, if you've really p'd them off. I suppose that killing Confeds (in R systems? in general?) would help too. Eventually you will get a chance to run a small mission for the Rebellion, similar to the first for the Confeds.
