    • I usually name them from stuff in LOTR, such as Minas Tirith, Minas Ithil, Osgiliath, Anduril, Flame of the West, Gondor, etc. (I've omitted the R.S.S.'s and the U.S.S.'s.)

      Yeah, I'm a LOTR geek.

    • I've had a tendency to go for names out of mythology.

(Pick your god: Egyptian, Greek (or titans in this case), Norse...etc)

      Ra
      Sokar
      Hades
      Hephaestus
Hermes (usually for a trading vessel, what with him being the messenger of the gods)
Prometheus (warship, as it'll be giving fire to your Human enemies, albeit being a malevolent fire this time)
      Thor
      Odin

      (Pick your hero...)

      Odysseus
      Daedalus
      Achilles
      Pelops
Hector (kind of nice they threw that one in there, eh? ;))
      Bellerophon

      (Pick your monstercreature...)

      Chimaera
      Pegasus
      Hydra

    • The only names I've used and found interesting are mockeries of the "Millenium Falcon":
      -Centennial Eagle
      -Eternal Hawk
      -Immortal Robin

But the best one is (IMHO) "long-living Bird".

    • Or you could name it after famous historical leaders...

Bismarck (or is that already a ship name of some government?)
      Disraeli
      Sforza
      Medici
      Luther
      Hus
      Wycliffe
      Washington
      Wellington
Napoleon (especially useful, since there were three of them or so)
      Augustus

    • I like ending them in ...dozer. So, Bulldozer, Killdozer, Skulldozer, etc. Or something ridiculously pathetic, so that the mission boxes look silly. "So, Bloody Tourist, do you think your Rusty Deathtrap is up to the mission?" It never gets boring. I have this Diphidian ship in GS called Splishy Splashy - I think it may be conflicted

      ------------------

    • -dozer might make a good name for a "slow" or "sluggish" ship, like the Confed Cruiser.
How 'bout "Deimos Rising?" I think I've heard that name somewhere before! Now where did I hear it...hrmmm...

    • Solel, Bismarck was a German Warship in WWII.

I use names of warships, subs or planes form WWI or II for all my EVO files. I've use Hyperion (Cresent Warship), Bismarck(Zidara), Kursk (Igazra), Nimitz(Azdara), and Hood(V. Cruiser) so far. Maybe more, I could be forgetting something.

In EV I like to name my Kestrels Falcon.

Me too. I was going to use "not all who wander are lost" in my signature, but Solel beat me to it.

    • It's not a good omen to name your ship after ships that have been sunk/destroyed. In "Eye of Orion" there was a ghost fed cruiser by the name of "Flying Dutchman."
In EVO's "Frozen Heart," there was a plague ship by the name of "Marie Celeste."

Bismarck, Nimitz, and I believe Hood and Kursk as well were all historical leaders. Bismarck, in fact, was the individual most responsible for the unification of Germany, through the Franco-Prussian War.

I forget where I got Nimitz and Hyperion from, but Bismarck was also a German warship, which was supposed to go into the ccean and cut off Britain's supply lines form America. The Hood, the largest warship in the British fleet, chased and was sunk by, the Bismarck. Bismarck was later sunk by a fleet of over 100 British ships.

The Kursk was a German(I think) submarine, which was doing a mock attack for practice when it mysteriously exploded. Blame was put on other countries, but I think in the end it was some kind of torpedo accident.

These ships could have originally been named after your famous people, though.

    • Kursk was a Russian nuclear submarine, actually the flagship of their submarine fleet.

Its sinking had something to do with weapons on board, but I can't remember the details....that little peice of news got pushed on thh backburner for 9/11.

    • Right Russian, I forgot if it was Russian or German. I watched a show on the sinking of the Kursk, and supposedly the cause was the gases used in the torpedoes were out of date and exploded or ignited or something like that.
