    • Why do friendly ships...

attack you when after you tractor in one of your own disabled fighters? I'm playing the Earth Confederacy string of RoP, and I tractored in one of my disabled Tac Bombers, only to have the entire Sol system defense force (in orbit) attack me (they went red, I skedaddled). I just assisted in the defense of the Ferric-7 system, tractored in one of my disabled Tac Bombers, and the entire Ferric-7 defense force (in orbit) went red and attacked me. Why is this? Also, before the first mission, even before I had a chance to leave Levo system to work on upgrading my combat status (I was Harmless and Clean in all systems), when I launched from Levo after buying my Guild Terminator and upgrading it, I was attacked by NPU ships, for no reason I can fathom! Why is this?

Because it counts as a weapon. Once one of your fighters becomes disabled, it doesn't belong to you (according to the game), and I think your allies would be pretty peeved if you started firing off weapons at disabled fighters.

    • I assume you mean the tractor beam counts as a weapon? When I say "tractor," I don't mean I'm using the beam, I mean I "board" my fighter, which disappears from space and appears in my bay, which has been emptied of all other fighters. Also, I've noticed that, for example, when I'm attacked by more than one pirate ship which has a fighter bay, whatever fighters it launched can only be tractor-beamed back to whatever ship launched it. I've tried tractoring fighters to several pirate ships, only to have the fighter disappear into the bay it actually was launched from. Only then (with my bay empty) can I board the pirate ship and "steal" its fighter(s). That still does not explain why I was attacked by NPU ships so early in the game. I know there are "psycho" fleets, but NPU?

So you're not using a tractor beam at all?

    • Not on fighters I launched from my own bay. They're identified as "fighter" instead of "pirate" or whatever. I'll take a look, but I don't think there's a "Psycho NPU" in the plug.

Nope! There's a "Psycho Maskirovka," but no "Psycho NPU!"

    • I haven't played RoP, but if this govt has the police flag checked, they will become hostile if you board a disabled, nonxenophobic/enemy ship, such as your fighters.

    • As far as I can tell, the NPU will attack you in a non-allied system if you're a criminal in that system. This was at the beginning of the game, so I couldn't have gotten that low in that system. As for boarding my own ships, I could simply be rescuing the crew. As I see it, they would attack me for tractoring in/rescuing survivors in escape pods (except if it's mission-related, of course).

I havent played RoP, but knowing the EV engine, it sounds crazy. You arent supposed to be attacked if you just board your own fighters. It isnt logical, either; as you say, you could just be rescuing the crew. They should only be angry if you boarded other fighters, or were a criminal, which you werent. Luckily, it doesnt work that way in the stock EV scenario. Board your own Lightning for your Kestrels bay and others could care less.

    • I think you may just have to accept that you can't take your fighters back on until your friendly fleet has gone out of the system.

    • Regaring the Terminator: this ship probably has an inherintgovit ID. All ships recognize you as a ship of the govt referenced by the ID, so enemies of that govt will attack you. never played the plug, so I don't know for sure.

    • Nope. The InherentGov't ID is -1, therefore it's not affiliated with any particular gov't, even though the GMBH commissioned its upgrade and is selling them to those who are "anti-pirate."

Yeah Tim pretty much dropped the InherentGovts on most the ships since they tend to cause the player undue annoyance (I mean who wants to fly around in some confederacy POS when you can get an nice Faction warship?).
