Okay, the corvette against an unarmed kestrel doesn't work, but the 5 corvettes does, as you could have a fleet of 5 corvettes for the price one kestrel.

But it is a fair comparison for price checks. They should be able to take out 5 corvettes. Otherwise they are overcharging. Anyway GCS, I'm going to make the next update for LC Wars much more interesting.

Firstly! The Corvette's price tag is 2.42M at LOWEST! That means it's 4 for the price of one.
The Kestrel costs so much because it is simply the best ship to make money in.
Sell your lightnings, capture and sell pirate ones. Thus you get your ****ing cash back in under 10 minutes. Don't tell me it aint cost effective!Now, if you were to remove the lightning bay, lightnings, and all secondaries it would cost about in the range of 5M. A Confed Frigate goes for 5M. Again that is a government ship so it's naturally better. Then, you subtract the corporate greed value, which knocks the price down to a good 3.5-4M. For that price, a kestrel is CLEARLY better than any civillian ship.
Many of you are boasting how you beat it in your upgraded Argosies, defenders, etc... YOU ARE A HUMAN PILOT AGAINST THE A.I.!!! The AI is very stupid and cant learn or think. I would take a ****ing kestrel against ANY of you in yer other ships and win. The Kestrel is reality is the best ship in the game because you can make the most money in it to get anything you want. You got 10M in the bank and want that Rebel Cruiser right? Buy a Kestrel and the Cruiser is yours in 15 minutes rather than a couple hours.
Make any argument you will, i will counter it. The Kestrel is THE best Civilian ship freighter or warship period.------------------

Actually, looking at this debate, it seems like both sides do have valid arguments regarding the Kestrel's worth; my take on it, though, is that it goes beyond simply combat capability. The Kestrel is a civilian vessel, which naturally should give it more restrictions on production and anything, and it's rare -- it's price is understandably inflated.
I've also always imagined, for the sake of having the price make sense, that the Kestrel has a much more comfortable interior than the Rebel Destroyer (and it has to accomodate many times the crew as well). My mental pictures include nice, carpeted hallways with wood paneling, versus a dark, dingy, corridor with grated metal floor on the Rebel Destroyer, with nothing but a thin mattress for your bed.

For the arugment that Kestrel's aren't cost effective, I agree. You can do more with a Rebel Destroyer for less. But it isn't really overpriced.

It'd be like having the state highway patrol use Lambourghini Diablos or something (well, they seem to in some racing games...like the Need For Speed series, in hot pursuit mode).

Sell your Lightnings (2M), hire a Lightning (100k), disable and capture (1M).
So, indeed I have made the money back in no time..
Gotta try a Kestrel in GS as I get enough money.

In GS you can just buy the bay from a Pirate (4M credits). This also allows you to sell off the bay to make a Kestel Lite or to add other bays to make a Kestrel Carrier.

Not exactly, Mike...a B-2 is a stealth bomber, all right - but it has no air-to-air defensive weaponry. In broad daylight a B-2 would be shredded almost instantly just by eyeballing the thing. Hit the cannons, and b00m.
Sure, at night you can't find it, but still...the B-2 is not capable of shooting down fighters.
The last US bomber to carry antifighter weapons (as in guns, not chaff or flares) was the B-52. It had 4 .50 caliber tail guns, which were deleted in later versions.
Currently, the only large aircraft to carry tail armament is the Russian Tu-95 Bear family. (Swept wing turboprop.)

Well the most cost-effective ship is obviously the shuttlecraft with a laser cannon.
Think about it. At 15000 a ship, you could buy 1000 shuttlecrafts with a laser cannon for the price of a Rebel Cruiser! 1000 shuttlecrafts would shred that thing

I made an EV ship thats just a whole bunch of defenders in a fleet thats all the same ship. Called it a defender swarm, and gave it the power of that many defenders. Its quite a fearsome ship, far better then anything else its price.
