It doesn't have turrets, so if I lowerd the game speed to 25% I might be able to somehow stay behind it all the time, and maybe the Rebel Cruisers will keep the fighters busy...

But, any good strategies? Credits is a problem, as I have just 500000...

Lightning is not nearly enough. I tried this mission once in a Kestrel. I got hit once and my shields dropped by 25%. So pirate Pirate Kestrel until you have enough money for a Kestrel (some prefer Corvette). Then buy all armor and speed upgrades you can get. Get as many Lasers and Protons you can get. Secondary weapons are worthless. A Torpedo causes 1% damage. So get this setup and increase game speed to 100% again. It shouldnt be too hard, and youre right in that Rebel Cruisers will keep the fighters busy.

Oh bad... Well, it's only 1 million for a Corvette anymore...

I'm not so sure about my chances of handling a Kestrel, as missiles aren't tha effective, and I don't have any secondary weapons..

Back to raiding Argosies at Levo, I guess :frown:

They're easy money anyways, and Levo never turns hostile..

Or then I could just fly around doing the Rebellion's 'Defend Planet' or 'Kill Confed Executive' missions...

There's no time limit in the Alien Mission, right?

You had lots of Torpedoes at one point, right? You had 28 of them. Just stick them back and youre guarenteed to be able to kick butt of a single Kestrel. Yea, a Lightning isnt enough for the toughest ship in the game. One mistake in using your speed and poof. The planet never turns hostile, but pesky little Defender Militias will attack you after you are low enough. There is no time limit.

I have noticed that the best way to beat the cruiser is to stock up on lasers and short-range secondaries (Bombs, javelins, etc). If you can keep behind the Cruiser and keep your hand on the trigger, you've got a good shot at beating it. This strategy would favor a Corvette the most, but it's worth a shot in your lightning, again.

Better yet, get behind it and use the tractor beam on it. Its turning ability should be severely hampered, and it should be an easy win (it was when I did it in a Corvette.) I wish I had a tractor beam on my Rapier pilot, I'm hunting around for the alien mission now and wondering how I'm going to pull it off.

Corvette's the way to do it. A kestrel doesn't have quite the maneuverability to work with this.

If you have the cloaking device you can do it in a scoutship. It is basically a cheat , but the Alien Cruiser is hostile to you and you alone. The Alien Fighters are hostile to anyone.

Outfit your scoutship with two fuel pods and a ramscoop. The instant you jump in cloak and stay cloaked. If you can do this before the Alien notices you and there are no significant other forces (enemy govenment or pirate), your Rebel (or Confed) escorts will pound the Alien Cruiser while it just sits and takes it. You can capture or hire escorts to make it faster if you like. Just do it before your fuel runs out. Then you have to do it the hard way, in a scoutship (which can be done, but that takes significantly more skill).

Naturally this will work in any ship with enough fuel or with enough escorts. This cheat also works for a large number of missions where the "Ship Attack Player" flag is set (e.g Stellar Defense).

P.S. This trick does not necessarily work in a plug-in. For example in Galactic Scourge the mission re-defined so they don't fall for that trick (and your escorts are lost and torpedos don't work and the Aliens are beefed up a bit).

P.P.S. Lowering the game's speed is also essentially a cheat. EV does not work well with the speed lowered (or raised). At lowered speeds you may find that your Lightning gets torpedoes fired at it and that large ships cannot turn at all. At high speed no one gets torpedoed.

Because of a bug, its said Lasers are better than Protons. I cant remember the bug exactly, probably someone could say it to you. But because you have three Protons on turret and Lasers just have two, Proton Turrets are actually better. So if you go cannons, Lasers are better. If you go Turrets, Protons are better. I dont know any ways to get a quick million than the aformentioned raiding of Kestrels (gives about 300,000 a ship. You can try Corvettes for easier, but still profitable fight. They give about 100,000 each. I dont know of any superprofitable trade routes like Misers Run in EVO...

JES! MAHTAVAA!

I finally did it!

...after 27 minutes, countless tries and 377 Javelin Rockets, I managed to beat it up, and successfully land on a planet to save my progress

Once, I got it down to 1%, got happy, let my guard down for a few seconds, and there I was, in the middle of a Heavy Fusion Beam, dead.

But finally I cut it!

With a Lightning, 4 Laser Cannons, 1 Laser Turret and 1 Javelin Pod! Yeah!

Now I have a Rebel Destroyer, woot for that :), and nearly 8 million spare credits!

YEAH!

There are asteroid in the systems you fight this ship in. Let it fire off all its 80 drones, let them slam into some asteroids and you're fine to go in and kill the cruiser.

Destroyer E is the name of my ship and the name has a good meaning.

Good job. I remember using the cloak cheat the first time (two years ago). More recently I beat it in a Rapier, going down to 20% shields. I've done it more than a few times, though.
