Well I am new to the Escape Velocity series due to the fact that I own a PC, but I finally found an emluator that works so I started playing EV (I can't play overide or nova yet but I will when Nova comes out for PC). My problem is, is that I wa recently in a suped up clipper and captured a pirate one. I wanted to fly the other one so that I would have a good escort. But the problem now arises that MY ESCORT WILL NOT DEFEND me. Everytime I am attacked it just continues flying on its merry way. I have tried the "f" "c" and "v" commands thinking one of them would have the escort clipper help me out but to no avail. Can anyone give me some advise? Thank you

First things first: All your escorts revert to stock formations, regardless what was on them before they were captured. If you deck out a clipper and then capture another clipper and choose to use it as your own, your decked out clipper reverts to it's stock configuration and becomes an escort. The fact that it won't attack your enemies is due to it's AI type.

There are six basic AI types:

Excript from the EV Bible

1 - Wimpy Trader Visits planets and runs away when attacked
2 - Brave Trader Visits planets and fights back when attacked, but runs away when his attacker is out of range
3 - Warship Seeks out and attacks his enemies, or jumps out if there aren't any.
4 - Interceptor Seeks out his enemies, or parks in orbit around a planet if he can't find any. Buzzes incoming ships to scan them for illegal cargo. Also acts as "piracy police" by attacking any ship that fires on or attempts to board another, non-enemy ship while the interceptor is watching.
5 - Naval Fighter Carried by another ship. Reserved for internal use - do not use!
6 - Escort Flies with the player. Reserved for internal use - do not use!

The Clipper has an AI type of 2. He'll run but defend himself.

Aj is right. Some ships just don't defend. If you want to cheat you can always modify that.

If you modify the Clipper's AI, though, you won't be able to use it's cargo space. Keep that in mind.

Thank you very much AJ and phantompenguin. I did a sech for escorts on the main board but not the EV board specifically which is why I didn;t come up with these results. My screen name comes from the fact that in HS I signed up for French but it was full so they put me in New Testament Greek. hence my name translitereated: Ryan = Rho Iota Alpha Nu.
