I just started doing rebel missions, i think i done one of them. Can i still do feds missions after i already done a rebel mission?

Hi, yeah i noticed that when i finished a string and used the worm hole to zap back to Fed space i went to kerella and met up with a bunch fleeing from the beauro ! i spelt that wrong , and me i attacked them shot one down and then all the others in prodical son ships joined me then i got another mission not a string though.
