    • Starting Out Need Help (thanks):

      Hello All,
I have been an EVO player for a while, and now I want to go back to my childhood, and started playing EV again. I was wondering is there any way for me to start off and join the Confederecy? Or do I need to build up some? If so, how?

      Thanks,

      Mike

    • you need to earn it. they wont take someone off the street to fight for them. See (url="http://"http://www.evula.com/survival_guide/ev-govt/confed.html")here(/url)

    • Try getting enough money for a Clipper, then pirate the Pirate Clippers and Argosies in the Altair System, one to the east of Zaxted. That way, you can get money, combat experience and score points with the Confeds. Run away when a Corvette or a Kestrel shows up. Eventually, you can make enough money to afford the Corvette.

    • If you want to be a COnfed, first start off by doing missions for them, and when you have enough money, buy a scoutship. Then keep doing missions until you get an OK ship like a Clipper or an Argosy (NEVER EVER buy a Defender or a Courier). When you have a good enough ship, then start attacking Rebels to get a good reputation among the 'feds. (Rebels will hate you, however.)

You can't get Confed missions in a Shuttlecraft. Well, you could, assuming you can kill things without getting killed in a Shuttlecraft, which people have done, but eccentric, red-eyed addicts aside, it is much easier in a larger, more powerful craft.

I would suggest doing cargo runs in the Shuttlecraft until you reach 1.2 to 1.5 million credits. (perhaps a Scoutship, but I don't see much difference between the two in performance, although there is a significant one in fuel). At that point, I would purchase a Rapier, sell everything that's on it, and upgrade it as such:

      Max out laser cannons/turrets
      Torpedo Launcher + ~25 torps
Shield Capacitors and Shield Regenerators, as many as affordable/physically possible.
      Missile Jammer.
      Afterburner

With this combination, I would travel the uninhabitated systems on the northern Rebel/Confed borders (Risa, Curzon, et al.) and start killing things, namely Pirate Argosies, Clippers, and Corvettes. You will find that firing torpdos at the lattermost while avoiding their missiles using the Jammer and the Afterburner will make very short work of them and will reward you with 600,000 credits per ship; one of the few sure-fire get rich quick schemes. At this point, I would stop in Confed space every now and then until I am offered a mission from a Confed officer. At that point, it become self-explainatory.

I disagree that your suggestion is the best option. The Clipper and the Corvette cannot match the speed and recharge rate of the Rapier, particularly the latter. The Rapier is EV's Azdara in terms of that. While the Clipper and Kestrel exceede the Rapier in cargo room available, I have never found cargo runs to be necessary for sucess in EV once you have moved past the Shuttlecraft.

Buy the corvette. What ship do you have now?

    • The Corvette. You can virtually kill anything with a Corvette.

    • I have a scout now.

    • The Corvette was the first ship I won the game with, oh so many years ago.

    • Actually, the courier is how I made enough money to buy my first Kestrel. I sat in the Turin system in my courier and got behind every Clipper, Scoutship, and Courier that came into the system. Clippers and Scoutships have no turreted or rear-firing weapons, so you can stay behind them without getting hit. Fighting other couriers is easy, especially if you replace the laser turret with a proton. You're doing more damage than he is, and he gets disabled at 33% armor anyway, so even if you still had a laser turret, he would still be disabled before you. Now, just board 'em, take their cash and ammo/cargo (don't worry about the self-destruct going off and losing precious combat rating - you'll have plenty of time to build that up when you get the Kestrel) and sell it on Turin V. If you can't sell your cargo on Turin V, just jump into the Persephone system and sell it on Rupert. It took me about an hour and a half to get 10 mil using this method 🙂 Make sure there aren't any Feds in the system, though, or they'll kick your arse.
