    • download.com has ev

I recently discovered that download.com has the ev series and plugs. My friend was talking to me about it and said there were quite a few good plugs there, and some were pretty challenging. They also have ratings for it. EV has 95% yes EVO has 97% yes and EVN has 84% yes.(yes recommend others download it) So if anybody is looking for more(challenging) plugs you check that out. I was surprised that EVN rated lower than the other 3 (and fewer people voted on it). But just so that everybody knows (I'm sure some of you already knew that). 🙂

Those statistics don't surprise me very much. EV has been around much longer than EV:O or EV:N and has had time to accumulate more and more votes. In it's hayday, EV was a revolutionary breakthrough in the gaming industry. It was an open-engine shareware game that provided more replay ability than most commercial games of it's time. EV:O and EV:N, although both better in terms of features, still rely on the old EV formula of game design. This aged combination has made them less and less groundbreaking in the eyes of gamers, attributing to their lower user ratings. To most of us in the EV community, EV:N may be a better game but there are many who have just downloaded it for the first time who feel they've been presented with an antiquated playing style and outdated graphics. Just try comparing EV:N to today's space shooters like the Rogue Squadron series. By comparison, they're old, clunky, and graphically uninspired. A new generation of gamers is upon us that don't have the attention span to discover the shining qualities underneath the aging visage of the top-down sprite based gaming platform.

    • The problem is EVN isn't really that good compared to the first two. It's linear and short.

Each mission string in EVN is longer than the main Confederate and Rebel strings combined.

While it might be more linear, don't you think leading to factions to victory against each other would be a bit contradicting?

Really? I'd agree with anyone who said that EVC and EVO had a more classic feel to them and things like that, but "linear" really doesn't work too well with the many storylines of EVN, and "short" is probably due to the fact that you've accumulated skill with playing EV over the years.

But each of the storylines do lead you on a track.

    • Well, what game doesn't lead you on a track? There are relatively few...

But you must remember that Rawzer is also joking in about 90% of his posts.
