    • Dude, people can just alter the pilot files with resedit to make it look as if they did this. If they bothered at all. Nice try, though.

Actually, altering a pilot file in ResEdit is a lot harder than you might think. Perhaps you meant using ResEdit to create a plug-in that could then be used for pilot file alterations?

That's only the tiniest fraction of a pilot data file. Lovely, isn't it?

(edit)tried to force a few breaks into it(/edit)

    • Pilot files are encrypted to prevent exactly this sort of meddling, and are a good deal more complicated than any plug-in resource even if you do have the decryptor.

    • I made an attempt to turn strict play on in a pilot file I was using. I created two pilots. Identical names, identical ship names, everything. The only difference being that the first had strict play enabled. Then, I cracked them open in BB Edit and did a hex-dump of the byte values. This makes them alot easier to read. I ran a search for differences between the files. I fully expected there to be at least two differences (creation dates differed as well as the strict play option) but it appeared to have about 6 different BLOCKS of differences. Each was about 128 bytes long. I then tried creating another identical non-strict play pilot to compare to the already existing one and find out which fields change every time but I didn't have any luck with that. The same fields were still extremely different. I'll give it another shot sometime today or tomorrow. I will, of course, post the results here.
