Please be notified that permission for the Astex defence force to own and operate Confederate Navy ships is recinded, and it is expected that all Confederate Cruisers, Frigates, Patrol Ships, and Gunboats be returned immediately. Be warned that any attempt to head for hyperspace safety zone will be taken with extreme prejudice, and weapons will be fired.

You seem to forget that Astex is heavily subsidised by the Confederate government. As of now, that subsidy is withdrawn. All Confederate contracts with Astex are withdrawn. Astex access to Confederate facilities is terminated. All loans to Astex are terminated, and debts will be paid now.

All third parties who have entered into contracts with Astex Corporation are being given tax relief to terminate contracts with Astex.

For Astex Corporations information, all contracts are being turned over to the newly created Department of Internal Commerce, which will be based on Antares and take up all job losses caused by Astex's loss of contracts. You should also remember that Antares is not Astex's puppet to play with, but is a core world of the Confederation. The Confederation will accept no rebellions.

I believe this matter is concluded to my satisfaction.

'The INN has continued its subversive attempts to spread discourse through the Confederation, but luckily all signals have been jammed. In an update to outside contact, communication with non-allied worlds has been terminated for non-government officials, but those wishing to contact outside planets are directed to contact their local elected representitive for information on how to gain permission for outside access.

'In other news, the newly formed "Humanity United" has taken a staggering lead in polls on all Confederate planets, and it is believed this is due to their commitement to ending the rebellion, and a commitment to cut naval budgets by 25% once the war is over, allowing Confederate citizens to once more enjoy life. Party Chairman Anton Hussar issued a statement...'

All Astex debts to the Confederation have been payed.

However, this matter is not concluded to my satisfaction, even though I'm sure you don't give a damn about my satisfaction.

The Confederate Ships in my defense fleet were a gift to Astex Industries by the former leader of the Confederation. They are not yours, they never were yours. I will do with them as I please, and any attempt on your behalf to take them from me or attack me because of my continued possesion of them should be viewed as illegal and immoral.

You should remember that Astex Industries owns nearly 75% of the surface of New Providence and all citizens living in that area are only indirectly under your control. You should further note that most of the citizens living in the Antares system work for Astex, and most of those are very loyal to Astex.

The Confederate ships where supplied to you as an ally and integral corporation of the Confederation. Due to your breach of this, the ships are now Confederate property. It does not matter if a former leader gave them to you. You have violated the compact between Astex Corporation and the Confederation. The ex-President is now in prison awaiting trial. The Confederation will do what it wishes with those ships, including turning them into their component atoms.

Many citizens on New Providence work for Astex Corportion. However Astex is, and never has been, a government. All citizens, apart from those on holiday from independant planets, and those on exchange programs are Confederate citizens, and always have been. No citizens have ever paid taxes to Astex, nor had their guaranteed health and liberty rights enforced by Astex. The Confederation has always been in control.

As it is, Astex Corporation no longer has the funding to support most of those jobs. The citizens of New Providence are loyal to the Confederation, and were loyal to Astex Corporation when it was a Confederate company. That status no longer applies.

Astex Corporation merely operated many of the mines on New Providence under direction of the Confederation. Those contracts are now terminated, and 85% of the mines are now under the juristiction of the Department of Internal Commerce. The remaining land under Astex control is being purchased under war act #324, which allows the government, in time of war, to purchase land from corporations or civilians at what it considers a fair price. That price is now 1 credit for everything.

      Prepare to die.

With that, Beta Fleet opened fire. Beta Fleet, quite simply, outnumbered the Astex Defence fleet considerably. It had 3 Confederate Cruisers with Particle Beams and heavy shielding and armour, along with 8 other Cruisers. Then the fleet also had 8 Frigates as escort, and of course, the fighters. Then of course, 3 Confederate Cruisers, of the Antares Defence Force, were also ready to enforce Confederate order.

The Confederate ships had already resupplied at Antares Station, which had always been under Confederate Military control, and the initial munitions barrage sent more out than the Astex forces had in total.

Quite simply, it would be a massacre, and Astex would not survive its treachery. The Confederacy would simply not allow it.

'Recent events in Antares have shown how quickly once respected allies have turned on the Confederation, and Astex Corporations claims about the people of the system being under it control do not seem to be true. A press statement released by Humanity United, stated that their offices on New Providence had been besieged by people offering evidence of Astex Corps misdeeds in the past, and that Humanity United was simply stunned by the amount of people disgusted with Astex Corps treachery in the face of victories against the rebels.'

    • ... Not that it matters anymore, but...

      ///////////////////
(Edit) Here’s a more likely scenario to the Regulus invasion of Sirgil. I’ve edited in some detail RMA seemed to have missed... (/Edit)

(The Regulus fleet) would not be going to assist the Cydonians. It would strike at Sirgil instead, left without the attack fleet, it would have only its defence fleet. And that was outnumbered badly.

Later on, the Confederate fleet entered Sirgil, and opened fire....

(Edit) Fortunately for Sirgil, Foxtrot Wing (1 Cruiser, 3 Destroyers, 3 ‘Vettes and 14 Mantas, led by Commander Lee) was “patrolling at a distance with sensors on “high and wide,” (which when) combined with the Rebellion’s standard defense network would prevent any “surprises arrivals” of unwelcome visitors.” (/Edit)

The (Fed) patrol ships launched, fired off their missiles, and (Edit) most of them (/Edit) returned to close escort of the frigates and cruisers. (Edit) But because the Rebel Foxtrot Wing was patrolling, most of the missles were dodged by the very agile Rebel ships. Foxtrot called out the rest of the 21st Fleet ... and wasted a dozen or more Patrol Ships. (/Edit) Any (Rebel) ships trying to come in close to pick them off would also face every other ship in the fleet.

The initial missile barrage would startle and destroy Rebel ships, leaving the Confederates in a position of supremecy. (Edit)...Or not, since Sirgil was ready. (/Edit)

And unfortunately for the Rebel fleet if it tried to get through Regulus, not only would it face heavy missile barrages, along with fighters strafing them while they charged for hyperspace, they would also find a scoutship in Pelagon that could outrun anything with its large fuel tanks and afterburner, but which would also return and smash into the Rebel fleet, as it hypered out, with a particle beam.

(Edit) (Where to begin with this paragraph?) But you just told us the Regulus Fleet was in a protective formation. While the Fed fleet is big ... no, “huge” ... it still cannot control all space in the system from an “escorting” formation. So....

By now, Wilk had sized up the very bad odds. He made one of the more difficult calls an Admiral ever has to make. He radioed, “Sirgil Station and Sirgil. The Rebellion cannot win this battle. And since ours is the long term goal, the 21st fleet must retreat. Implement self-destructs on all classified material now. I promise, we’ll return... Wilk, out.”

The Sirgil Defense Fleet raced with the 21st to the opposite side of Sirgil space from the Feds. (Since the Feds insist on traveling in formation, they obviously had to procede at the pace of the lumbering Cruisers.) Wilk saw that the self-destructs were happening on the station ... and received word via radio that all classified material had been destroyed per standard procedure in cases like this.

The Rebellion 21st Fleet hypered out to rendezvous with the Rebellion Nemisis Fleet. (/Edit)

      Regulus Fleet: 12 Cruisers(11 CR-1095, 1 CR-1095B(with particle beam, gunboat bay and heavier shielding), and 12 Frigates(11 FF-4237, 1 FF-4237B(Heavier shielding).
      36 Patrol ships (Edit) (lost 12) (/Edit) 2 Gunboats.

(Edit) Rebellion 21st Fleet (now with Sirgil’s Defense Fleet) - enroute to join the Nemisis Fleet
      9 - Cruisers (including Wilk’s Vigilance
      14 - Destroyers
      6 - Corvettes
      44 - Mantas
      1 - Ops Rapier
      1 - Ops Scoutship (/Edit)
