      They are good escorts because they can hold a decent amount of cargo, are pretty fast, and are easy to capture. I often prey on pirate clippers for all of my captured clipper needs. And besides, if there were no clippers, some people would have a tough time legally upgrading their fighting status early on in the game.

      Actually, that mostly works against your point. As you say, they are easy to capture and a good way to raise your combat rating early on. So, you're saying they aren't a very good ship. Hmm. Isn't that what I'm trying to say?

      As for speed, a lot of other things are that fast and more maneuverable to boot. Their cargo room really isn't that great either. If you want an escort to carry cargo around for you, get an Argosy.

      I think it sucks either way. No room for guns, no room for cargo, shields, armor, projectiles, or fuel upgrades; the Clipship just plain sucks. I need a thesaurus.

      Argosies are actually easier... :rolleyes:

      (Second Edit)By the way, ship names (Clipper, Argosy, Lightning) are capatilized. It bugs me otherwise. SuperNova, I edited your quote a bit. Sorry if it bugs you.(/Second Edit)

    • I always buy a clipper, and I don't even know why. Just seemed more "Advanced™", so I got it. It isn't all that slow, and it comes with some OK weapons. Also, is the Monty Python manuver the reason why everyone is taking out Argosies? I almost never use that anymore, just seemed to much like cheating. Plus, you gotta get ready for EVN...

    • I actually think the courier is better because it is pretty fast and maneuverable with ten more cargo space which does make a difference and only one jump less in fuel. Though I currently fly a scoutship most of my pilot files have courier instead. Heres the ship path I am taking

      shuttle->scoutship->clipper->rapier->corvette

      PS I love clippers :)! they're similar to the EVO arada kinda good all around with an equal mix of speed and power. Perfect for a cargo vessel with a few adjustments. Also makes a nice heavy fighter.

      I may only lead a trade fleet but attack my transporters and feel the power of my mighty ship!

      Wow. Somebody's been busy digging through three-week-old posts :rolleyes:

      I hate clippers. I also hate rapiers. Lightnings are nice, as are scoutships, but the others can go away.

    • Nah ppl: Its Regular Scoutship
      Slightly modified scoutship
      Heavily modified argosy
      Corvette optional
      kestral

      Indeed. Clippers are slow, but occassionally useful. The firepower on the Rapier is nice, but it lacks any good space for extra weapons and, more importantly, cargo. Same goes for the Lightning. Scoutships are very useful, as are Couriers.

      I love using the Scoutship, but I never stay with it for long, because I eventually just move up and grab the Courier. After that comes the Argosey and all the other big capitol ships.
