    • Best Escorts?

What the best escorts to have? Rebel or Confed Cruisers? Rebel Destroyers? or maybe another ship (others, what others :p). Rebel Destroyers are good ships but they die too easily against enemy ships (the key to flying a Rebel Destroyer is tactics, the AI doesn't posess that). Confed Cruisers are too slow to take an active roll in battle, although their Patrol Ships are useful. But I think the best escort is the Rebel Cruiser. Heavily sheilded and armed, with four mantas it makes a great escort, and it has the speed to take an active roll in battle and not just float around in space like an asteroid (or like a Confed Cruiser :D). All other ships are just too weak (When I was flying a kestrel I did have six Corvette escorts, they were useful but they couldn't dominate planets or do anything that required real muscle 🙂 ). Anyways, thats just my opinion, thanks in advance :).

    • I never used escorts in EV (or, for that matter, EVO). I got tired of telling them to hold EVERY time I jumped into a new system.

I'm looking forward to the vastly-improved escort control that Nova will give you.

Yep. But I'd take 4 cruisers and 2 destroyers. Aside from that, 4 kestrals and 2 corvettes. My tactic is this - carriers for the fighters and heavy firepower, and 2 lighter ships for the speed to keep up with me 😉 and anything else required.

Oh, and never take defenders! 😄

So let those who want to be butt-kicked come to you 😄 No really, nothing beats a fleet of seven Confed Cruisers.

    • I usually don't use escorts, but Rebel Destroyers and/or Kestrels and Corvettes do the job quite nicely.

    • Rebel Destroyers make great escorts because of their 2 torpedo launchers - they can rip up opposing capital ships with ease. For the same reason I like Rapiers.

However, you can't beat the satisfaction of hiring 6 Argosies, telling them to hlod position, then luring a cruiser into range and watching it get shredded by 12 laser turrets.

    • Don't forget that missions that are hard without powerful escorts aren't as common in EV as in the sequil (the only one I can think of in EV is the T.A.G. mission).

    • For general and expendable escorts for just common flying time, I find that just having 6 Defenders are quite adequite. I'm a user of the guns blazing tactics vs the long distance weapons, so the defenders just add that many more laser cannons to the mix. Also, since I'm active in the battle, they aren't likely to get targeted by the enemy or its fighters. Did I mention cheap and expendable? 😉

I prefer free and expendable escorts or expensive decoys myself. Posted Image

    • Well, I'd have to agree with EVula on the escort issue, as it is quite annoying. And half the time I'm trying to keep my escorts from getting killed.

But in any case, I find having a squadron of Lightnings accompany is very nice -- I think at one point I had 5 of them (so one less than full) when I blasted off from Sirgil III, and a Confederate Frigate started to attack me. It lasted less than five seconds, if even three. I think the cool thing about the Lightnings is their speed -- so as some of you have said, you don't have to wait for the enemy to come to you (well, so sometimes that's a good thing).

Of course, Lightnings are inadequate for taking on cruisers, but hey, they're nice to have around.

Nothing except for my heavily upgraded Rebel Cruiser and six Rebel Cruiser escorts. And my little cheat where each Manta has a Manta bay and one Manta fighter.
