    • I completely understand someone not being able to go online to play games. I have a lot of personal experience with that.

Off the subject of Starcraft a bit (finally), I'm thinking of buying and MP3 player. However, I'm completely lost on which one. I know there's the iPod. It's made by apple so you know the quality's good. But I don't know if there's other ones that have more storage space, features, etc. Any info would be appreciated.

    • What does the iPod have again? 4 gigs? I don't think you could ever want more space. When are you going to need hundreds of hours of music without listening to the same song? Personally, I would go for the iPod just because it is an apple product and it is among the best out there.

As for starcraft: The problem is fleets of wraiths is that they are virtually useless in destroying an enemy base. Send a fleet of wraiths in to destroy a weakened base and it will take them forever, giving the enemy enough time to rebuild. I guess it would work ok if the enemy was making large amounts of air units and you have some ground back-up from an allie... In my next game, I will go terran and max out on wraiths.

    • For Hydralisks, Siege Tanks behind Bunkers, large groups of Battlecruisers (say 8+), or upgraded marine Medic groups all work very well. I've seen 36 Hydralisks shredded by a 12/4 Marine/Medic group before. Be sure to use StimPak on those Marines.

For Protoss against Battlecruisers, Scouts work best.

    • I've never had a problem with destroying an enemy base with wraiths. Take a dozen or so and target the workers. Then take out the CC, or Nexus, or Lair/Hive. Then target production buildings and make sure you've taken out every last worker and command center. Starve them to death.

    • What is the best strategy for protoss? The maxing-out-on-carriers strategy doesn't work well if your enemy has a clue enough to build something that can take out air units efficiently, like wraiths or BCs or scouts. I have been experimenting with archons. Is maxing out almost entirely on archons a good idea, with a few dark archons around to back with up with mind control? I tried mixing archons with zealots, but that did not work out because my enemy made guardians, which shredded my archons and left my zealots completely helpless.

How about dragoons? I used to hesistate to make them because I thought they took too much resources, but that was before I understood I had to have dozens and dozens of probes. How effective is a large group of dragoons?

Generally, the best strategy is not to max out on one thing, which is something a lot of new players miss. Any one kind of unit, no matter how good, can be effectively countered. Zealots/Corsairs is a spiffy combo I've occasionally employed with considerable success. Also, you don't necessarily have to max out, another fine point of the game. Small scale can be very effective as well. A shuttle with 2 Reavers or 4 Dark Templa on top of your enemy's mining can be devastating.

If you like air units, Scouts/Carriers work fairly well. Zealots/Dragoons (or archons) doesn't work bad on the ground, but some Scouts or Corsairs to shoot down Gaurdians or Battlecruisers is a good idea.

Also, if you run into walls of Phoon Cannons surrounding a base, remember that they can be flown over by fast units like Scouts or even Shuttles in some cases.

    • I know you should not max out on just one things usually, but sometimes it works. IE, maxing out on BCs. Leave most at home for defense, and send a few at your enemy in waves to keep him on his toes. Once they launch a large attack (ground or air) the BCs can usually defend successfully. Once they are weakened by units lost in a failed attack, you can move in and finish them off.

Of course, I usually win the game with nukes. It only works against people who don't really know what they are doing; but all my friends are as such. I have nuked entire bases to the ground. It's great fun. πŸ˜„

BTW Bari, there's no reason to stuff your replays. Starcraft does that for you, which is why they stay small.

    • Have any of you guys played the UMS map God's Land Super Units? I just played it a few days ago with one of my friends and got a huge kick out of it, just the whole idea of playing God I guess.

    • I was playing a game today (original starcraft, no expansion) and me and my friend beat two of my other friends, and were about to finish them off. However, I knew it would take a longer time to find and kill off every one of their buildings that I wanted to spend in the game, so I offered that we all allie and get wins on our records. Everyone agreed, and we did so. But instead of "congrats, you are victorious!" it said, "the game ended in a draw."

Is that a difference between original SC and BW, or what?

Oh, and mac, great replay. πŸ™‚

No. If everyone originally in the game allies, the game is a draw. If at least one person has left for any reason (surrendered, dropped, had to leave, anything), everyone gets a win. Probably done to prevent a couple guys from running up a huge record just by making games and allying over and over.

Ah, so you have other reasons. Well, I suppose it works, even if it doesn't speed up the download.
