    • A Few Questions


      I've played EV on and off since it was not long after it was released, got Override, got irritated by the different governments having weapons that don't work with each other, gone back to EV and I'm waiting for Nova (who isn't??!!).

      Anyway, a few things have always bugged me, maybe I missed a few missions that they refer to, but why are there:

      A fleet of Argosy's and Defenders that float around the systems, apparently traders.

      Groups of Rebel (maybe Confed too, can't remember off the top of my head) ships that gather in uninhabited systems and stop in a group, when you hail them, they are "busy". Once they have stopped, they never leave.

    • Those are just miscellaneous fleets to add character. The stopped fleets have always bugged me a bit too. I think that's a bug in the engine involving fleet behavior when a Cruiser in the fleet recovers fighters that it has launched. They aren't associated with any missions, they're just there to be cool, trade, beat up Confeds, whatever.

    • Yeah, those are fleets, I think. They're programmed to appear every now and then... just to add a little more variety. 😛

      (rant)Can we let this spelling thing drop please. It doesn't bother me if things people have written don't have the right spelling or grammar, all this bitching about it just wastes time and bandwidth. Get on with your life and stop picking fault with every little thing. Or get a job as a proof reader, you'll be fantastic at it!(/rant)

    • One thing I noticed - I was for nearly the whole length of a game pursued by a group of five ships composed of 1 Rapier, 2 Defenders and 2 Lightnings. At first it bothered the heck out of me, they didn't pose a real threat, but they were always, always there! I could blow them up and jump into the next system - there they are! I could obliterate them and land on a planet. I take off - there they are again! Anyway, I was ticked for a while, annoyed, until I got a Kestrel. Every time I jumped into a system I would disable the 2 lightnings and grab them into my fighter bay. Then I'd sell them. I could make 30 mil in one session, easy. So, after I made about 200 mil they just up and disappeared. Weird!

    • Perhaps you just accepted a mission with such an escort? Were you using any plug-ins?

    • I'm guessing you had at least one largish freighter escort(s) (say an Argosy, or perhaps a group of Clippers) that you released when they went away. Correct?

    • As far as I understand this is how it works (I may be totally wrong, but it makes sense!):

      If you're a trader the pirate fleets are supposed to simulate protecting your goods or whatever. How does the game decide if you're a trader or not? Here's how:

      If you have 1 argosy, or light freighter as an escort, the ships that ALWAYS come into the system upon taking off, hypering in, etc. are defenders

      If you have 2 argosies, 2 light freighters, 1 argosy and 1 light freighter, or 1 bulk freighter you encounter the combination of fighters you mentioned everytime you enter/exit a system.

    • BariSaxGuy5, I've noticed that Lightnings/Rapiers come after you much more when you take a planet and become overlord, I think they're bounty hunter ships coming after you. Maybe thats what you were getting. How early in the game did it start happening?
