Greetings!

I write this due to two causes:

• 51% to answer questions about the Aliens.

• 49% to stop (or at least reduce the quantity of) thread after thread after thread, all asking the same (or similar) question(s) about the Aliens.

Okay, here we go:

The Alien missions are the last missions - just face it. Once you have completed that mission, you get a great reward (I won't tell what - and I hope that no one else will, as it will take away a lot of curiosity and excitement from the game).

You get the Alien missions, only if siding with either the Rebellion or the Confederation. Once you get the mission, just follow the instructions - they are very clear. But for the last part of the mission - where you actually are supposed to blow up the Aliens.

In order to defeat the Aliens, go to the Gamera system, and here is a guide on how to get there from Sol (which where Earth, Luna, Mars and Stardock Alpha are):

() Travel to Tau Ceti (south-west of Sol)
() Travel to Antares (south-west of Tau Ceti)
() Travel to Diphidia (north-west of Antares)
() Travel to Farazon (which is an empty system (NOTE! marked with grey on the map), which is lying directly west to Diphidia)
(*) Travel to Gamera (which is another empty system (see above note), lying south-west of Farazon).

This is just one of the many ways to get to Gamera, from Sol, but this one only requires five jumps.

If you, however, are playing on the Rebellion's side, you will get the Alien Mission whilst being on Palshife, I have therefor written a guide how to come from Palshife to Gamera:

Alright! Now I've taken you to the Aliens. Now let us focus on how to beat them.

Ship
Theoretically, it is enough with a Shuttlecraft, for all you need is a weapon. But I suggest at least a Corvette (preferably a Kestrel), for newbies. But it is not impossible to do it in a Rapier either. But some people claim they have done it in a Scoutship(!!!).

Weapon
Do not use Missiles or Torpedoes on the Aliens. Instead, load your ship with Laser and Proton Turrets and or Canons, as these damages shields much more than any other weapon. If you have sided with the Rebellion, you might have the Tractor Beam. You use it by selecting is at your Secondary Weapon (above the Target-box), and then fire it.

Strategy
If you are using the Tractor Beam (and I recommend that you do that), make sure that you get the Alien Cruiser within the beam's range, and preferably, with the Alien Cruiser's nose, pointing away from you. This will make the Alien Cruiser unable to attack you with its beams - but watch out for the Seeker Drones and the annoying Alien Fighters.
Like I said in the Weapon-thing, do not use Missiles or Torpedoes. But use Heavy Rockets and Javelin Rockets, if you like. But I still prefer using the Tractor Beam and a bunch of Turrets.
If you do not have the Tractor Beam (which you won't if you haven't done the Tractor Beam-mission, or have sided with the Confederation), buy the Thrust Enhancement, the Engine Upgrade and the RCS upgrade. By using these, you can fly at (almost) the same speed as the Alien Cruiser - it depends on what ship you used before. Fly after and behind it (or on its sides) and fire with whatever weapon you have (except for Missiles and Torpedoes!). After quite some time, the Alien Cruiser will be killed.

You do not need to kill the Alien Fighters - but you can always do that for fun! If you do not kill the Alien Fighters, they can/will appear now and then (I have only seen one once, when I did not kill them in the Alien Missions).

Also, remember: The alien fighters are the best ship in the game. It is not nescisary to obliviate them, just the cruiser. And make sure you don't loose your escorts like I did once, it makes it bloody hard.

**The Alien Race

The Species**

The Aliens are, as far as I can tell, a race of highly xenophobic aliens that destroy all who oppose them. They do not communicate with others, and are highly technilogically advanced.

Though this is mere speculation, I believe that the aliens look like a normal human, except with no hair, a reptillian-like head, and a hunched-over posture. Their skin probably looks like the skin of their ships, which looks organic.

Where did They come from?

No one really knows where the aliens came from or originated from, though some believe that they came from George's World, just a jump away from Satori; the headquarters of the Rebellion.

Others think that they came from another galaxy, and arrived in the Milky Way via a jumpgate or warpgate of some kind. However, it is my professional opinion that they are a nomadic alien race that has been wandering the galaxy, destroying all in their path using their superior technology.

This is supported by a sentence in the EV Into text which says:

"Within eight years, the enigmatic alien marauders were extinct."

So, it is my belief that these aliens were simply marauders, killing anything and everything. I do not, however, believe that they were totally wiped out. Many probably still exist in the void of space.

The History

The Alien race probably started out on an M-Class Planet, not unlike our own, except for the fact that it probably had little natural resources.

And so, because of that, the Aliens were able to expand just like we did, but around the time the aliens began to explore space, they ran out of natural resources like iron. To combat this shortage, the aliens began work on DNA research to allow them to construct organically built ships. This would be aided by using the DNA from their own skin to be the base for their hulls.

The aliens then slowly advanced, but they were probably 300 years ahead of us in space travel, which allowed them to roam the galaxy and greatly increase their technilogical skill.

During this time, they probably came across many alien races that they conquered, and incorporated their DNA structure into the structure of their ships to improve their strength.

Finally, after marauding the galaxy for centuries, they came across the human race, and made the mistake of underestimating humans. It would be their downfall.

After the initial success of the aliens after destroying many of the outer colony worlds within hours, the aliens then attacked the coreworlds, but they found stiff resistence.

The massive alien cruisers were slowly taken down one by one by frigates and manta fighters, with the Confederacy using tactics and ingenuity to outsmart their alien opponents.

Within eight years of the start of the Great War, the Alien race was thought to be extinct. In truth, there are probably aliens still roaming the galaxy, including the alien cruiser hiding in the Serpens Nebula, which was later destroyed.

The Weaponry

The Aliens use only three different types of weapons, but all of these are deadly.

• Alien Fusion Beam

The primary weapon for the Alien Fighter, the Fusion Beam is relatively weak, but it's more useful than a proton turret, and does enough damage to be extremely annoying.

The Fusion Beam works by first fusing together particles of energy, biomater, or uridium. The resulting energy release is then focused via a biogenetically "Grown" emitter, which fires the energy at a target, causing heavy damage.

• Alien Heavy Fusion Beam

A big improvement over the standard Alien Fusion Beam, the Heavy Fusion beam is an enlarged and enhanced version of the older weapon, which is more effeciant in directing all the energy released.

Extremely deadly, if you get hit by one of these things, you're probably going to die if you don't escape it FAST. This thing is the most deadly weapon in EV, in my opinion, even more so than torpedoes, space bombs, and the particle beam. It is the primary weapon of the Alien Cruiser, which makes that ship very dangerous, but since it is not turreted, it can't always hit the target it is pursuing. A very good anti-warship gun.

• Alien Seeker Drones

Fast, powerful, and nearly impossible to jam, the Alien Seeker Drone is a deadly addition to the aliens already possible arsenal. By firing in large barrages of 3 or more, the Alien Seeker drones only real disadvantage is their relatively slow speed.

Probably working on the same premise as the other weapons, by releasing fusion energy when the warhead detonates, the Seeker Drone launcher is probably very large, which is why the alien fighter only carries 1 launcher and 1 seeker drone.

One interesting note about the Alien weapons is this; all of them (except for the standard fusion beam) are very good against warships, which is why I am lead to believe that the fusion beam and the seeker drone were probably developed to be used against a race that used only large warships. The fusion beam was probably made to combat a weaker race that used fighters.

The Ships

• Alien Fighter
Weapons: 1 Fusion Beam, 1 Seeker Drone Launcher w/ 1 Seeker Drone
The only fighter in the Alien navy, and probably designed to combat other fighters, the Alien Fighter is quite deadly and numbers, and even more annoying. Practically impossible to destroy, these fighters are very well known for pestering ships for ages.

• Alien Cruiser
Weapons: 1 Heavy Fusion Beam, 3 Seeker Drone Launchers w/ 90 Seeker Drones, 1 Alien Fighter Bay w/ 3 Alien Fighters
The most deadly warship known to mankind, it was these massive alien cruisers that laid waste to nearly a dozen outer colony worlds within the first few days of the start of the Great War. Shielded more than 5 Confed Cruisers put together, and armed with the devastating Heavy Fusion Beam, the Alien Cruiser is also equipped with a stunning amount of weaponry, including 3 Alien Fighters. With organic hull plating like the Alien fighter, biogenetically "Grown" and strengthened over time, the Alien Cruiser is a ship to fear.

hey, I just got a cool idea for a plug-in in which the aliens have destroyed half the galaxy and your goal is to fight them throughout the game. And the systems can all be there, but they'll be uninhabited with asteroid fields because the aliens blew them up. Ok, I'm done ranting now

I would think in some aspects yes. In others, they may think differently. They might think more logically about agriculture and have amazingly productuve farms or something. They seem to be very advanced in sheilds and short range battle, but they suck with Armor and long range. I assume they tried to eliminate long range battle by making the righter so fast.

A human only uses about 10% - 15% of his/her brain* - perhaps the Aliens uses more of theirs. Which would make them think (much) more logical then we.
And their ships looks organic, don't they? That could be the reasong why they have so high shields; how much protection does organ provide you with?

By the way...
If mankind was the Alien's first threat, wasn't the Aliens extremely prepared? Their weapon-power could wipe out mankind.
Perhaps the Aliens had previos experiences in war, due to either civil war(s) or previous battles with other Alien-races.

I have done a few AI-vs-AI tests** and here are the results:

• 1 Alien Cruiser (with its fighters) vs. 1 Confederate Cruiser. Result: it didn't take long until the 'Fed Cruiser was dust.

• 1 Alien Cruiser (without its fighters) vs. 1 Confederate Cruiser. Result: a little less super-easy victory for the Alien Cruiser.

• 1 Alien Cruiser (with its fighters) vs. 1 Rebell Cruiser. Result: this shows how weak the Rebell cruiser is, it died very soon.

• 1 Alien Cruiser (without its fighters) vs. 1 Rebell Cruiser Result: Gamera Fried Reb' Cruiser.

What can conclusions can we make out of this?
The Aliens's ships are much better than mankind's ships, and they could theoretically wipe out mankind.

There might be some sort of truce between the two major governments, but the pirates could never form an alliance, for the simple reason that they are not a government. Piracy might decline as space captains felt it their duty to protect the human race rather than attacking it, but a formal alliance with what is mostly disorganised crime would be impossible almost by definition.

I don't know. I'm not sure what it is, but for some reason I always get the feeling that the aliens are supposed to have been fairly nomadic. Also, for that matter, I've never seen any reason to believe that there are any aliens left alive after you destroy the cruiser. Remember, it's supposed to have been incorrectly presumed destroyed during the Great War. It's not a scout for a coming invasion or anything like that.
