The 10%-15% number is, though commonly quoted, a gross oversimplification. Also, even assuming that the aliens had the same brain structure as we do (which is highly unlikely, as they are probably supposed to have evolved separately) there is no way we can extrapolate on how their brains would behave and whether they would be more logical than us.

People always refer to it as organic, but I've always felt like it looks more like a highly versatile and re-arrangeable interconnecting armour unit-based substance, which is more original, and therefore can do more interesting things that people don't expect.

Perhaps the Aliens had previos experiences in war, due to either civil war(s) or previous battles with other Alien-races.

I would be highly surprised if any intelligent race could reach spaceworthiness without having experienced war within itself.

What can conclusions can we make out of this?
The Aliens's ships are much better than mankind's ships, and they could theoretically wipe out mankind.

Not necessarily. There are a couple of points to remember:

      • The alien cruiser that you meet has been flying around the uninhabited systems for decades without anything to do other than avoid human contact. Therefore, I wouldn't be surprised if its bored crew had upgraded it significantly, making it more powerful than the ones the Confederation fought.

      • We don't know how many ships the aliens have/had, beyond that there were "dozens" of cruisers. If there were dozens of alien cruisers and hundreds of Confederation cruisers, don't you think that would make up for the disparity in power?

Incidentally, I have thought up an idea for an EV Nova plug-in which would allow me to bring in the aliens without violating their extinction, and at the same time introduce a new concept that I've never seen used in an Escape Velocity plug-in. Unfortunately, as there's a possibility that I might actually use this idea, I can't tell any of you what it is right now. 🙂

Well, there is truth to that "10% - 15%"-thing.
Yeees, I belive that Alien have different brain-structure than we do. And there is nothing that says that the Aliens aren't originally from Earth. Perhaps they lived here during Krita och Jura, but fled the Earth as they saw that it was about to collapse.

Perhaps the Aliens do not think in ways as "logical" or "illogical", perhaps they don't know of the words "good" and "bad", "right" and "wrong" or similar. Perhaps they live(d) in the perfect civilization?

After a closer look of the Aliens - I don't belive they look organic. They look... Hmm... Odd. Not organic, not concrete. Bah! Annoying! I wish to know what it is! >=)

Nah, I've already got two different plug-ins planned (actually, make that three, I just came up with another one while writing this).

I've also got a few EV (and one EVO) plug-ins up my proverbial sleeve, one of which is "Moderation", a collection of small plugs that will change various things in the EV universe (ie: one will make the Neutron cannon a primary weapon, another allows you to purchase the bulk freighter). They will all be inter-compatible, as they only change one thing, so you can pick which ones to use, and which ones not to.

Now all I need is some spare time to do it in. As it is, I'm currently a little busy with the (url="http://"http://www.evula.com/survival_guide/")Survival Guide(/url) (I'm currently working on the EV mission pages, and have refined everything else). There will also be a nice bit of new stuff next time, but I won't comment on that until later... 😉

How about the fact that they are called 'aliens'?

It never says how many cruisers the Confederation had. However, since in the game you can destroy any number of ships without doing substantial harm to their government, it seems likely that there are a very large number of warships in existence, and, by extension, that they were also plentiful in the days of the Great War.

It's actually an idea I had a while ago, but I put it off for EV Nova because of the superior engine.

True. But does it say how many Alien Cruiser there were? Plus that Alien Cruisers*3 = the quantity of Fighters. And one Fighter is, according what's said on (url="http://"http://www.evula.com")EVula.com(/url), deadlier than a Rebel Cruiser.

Perhaps Matt Burch didn't want us to know everything about the Aliens... Does even he know? (insert scary music) 😉

Actually, no, that is according to the game itself. The top block of text is the description that I got off of the original ev.com, which I'm assuming came from the game. I didn't write that (I did write the "EVula's Notes", obviously/however). The page being discussed is (url="http://"http://www.evula.com/survival_guide/ev-ships/aliens.html")here.(/url)

Just a side note: you'd never believe how off the wall some of the mission stats were for the original site. I've been comparing them to what I've seen of the mission in Schmelta-V, and some are WAY off. Means I'm going to have to go through all the missions and check them... grumble grumble

    • Read up on the great war, Kaboomer. The aliens were kicking butt, but humans made better ships and weapons. The same would happen if another war happened.

In the Confederation mission string, it says that there were "dozens" of alien cruisers. As for the alien fighter being deadly, it's highly overrated. It's very hard to destroy, but not very good at destroying things on its own.

Actually, as far as I know, there were never descriptions of the alien fighter and cruiser in the game. I think escape-velocity.com made up those two descriptions, although they did take some phrases from the alien mission strings.

Once upon a time, the original escape-velocity.com site was separate from AmbrosiaSW.com, and had a full guide to the game in the same vein as EVula's Survival Guide. It was also at ev.com that the web boards were powered by the WWWBoard and DiscBoard scripts that you sometimes hear 'oldies' and 'oldbies' talking about.

These claims, no matter what the newspaper you read a few months ago says, are based on an excessively simplified concept of the human brain, and have no application to real understanding of mental processes. The human brain is not a computer system , and cannot be measured as such.

Actually, the United Worlds of the Confederation never had "better ships and weapons," and they still don't by the time you defeat the final alien cruiser and fighters during the game. I would believe that the humans only defeating the aliens through massive numbers and well-planned tactics...
