Some people have recently posted about the Kestrel being a fine ship. Personally, I find it one of the worst ships in the game. Am I alone in this? It is slow, especially after having the Corvette. I would rather have a Corvette. And the Argosy is a better deal then the 10m Kestrel. The Kestrel's top upgraded speed is 375, not fast enough to escape missiles. The Kestrels high shields quickly evaporate when hit by 30+ missiles. And that is my only real requirement of a ship, it should have a decent amount of shields and be fast enough to outrun without using the Afterburner missiles.

Slow? It can outrun most ships in the game, save a few of the faster fighters. What is wrong with afterburners? I use them constantly, and they work great. It also has WAY higher shields than the 'vette. Excepting a few capital ships, it is one of the most heavily-shielded ships in the game. 30+ Missiles? How often are you hit with 30 missiles at once?

And, yes, it expensive. That is one of the only downsides...

Well, maybe not *, but you're right, it sucks. I'm not sure I'd rather fly an Argosy, but give me a 'Vette over the Kestrel any day.

The 'Vette is one of the best ships in that game, Moose. If someone ever makes an EV MP, I'll be happy to demonstrate how to beat a Kestrel in a 'Vette for you.

Shielding isn't a prime factor in a good ship. It needs some, but a 'Vette has plenty. Above about that level, it just doesn't matter.

BTW< Rebel Destroyer is way better than their Cruiser.

My Kestrel will work your 'Vette if you get in range for my turrets and guns. If you don't you'll have to deal with my Lightnings while I fly over to kick butt. Who cares if the Kestrel isn't fast enough to outrun 30+ missiles. Haven't you heard of decoy flares. I really have very little preference over the two, but the Kestrel looks cooler.

The Corvette is a more versitile ship than the Kestrel. The Kestrel, with its weak fighters, are nothing compared to four Mantas, 2 Lightnings, and 2 Rebel Cruisers. (My Fleet.)

The Rebel Destroyer is the most modifyable ship that I like. It can take out a Confed Cruiser like a Super Nova eclipsing a two hundred mile diameter moon. The Rebel Destroyer is, and I quote: " DA BOMB! "

My favorite Super Power ship is the Star Destroyer from the Star Wars Plug-In. But it can get a little too powerful at times.

The ONLY good thing about the Kestrel is it's the coolest looking ship in the game.

And I can take out a confed cruiser in my kestrel. So what? And how does a kestrel "suck mighty ***t"? It is a hair below a Rebel Destroyer as far as specs go, and looks way cooler. Not to mention is carrier fighter bays. It is overpriced, but it pays for itself. Do you know how much money can be made by picking up lightnings in the bay and selling them? Last I checked, your destroyer or corvette does not have any sort of fighter bay. Da Bomb? How cliché...

While it is true Kestrels aren't exactly the fastest ships in the world, with speed upgrades and a missile jammer, missiles are no prob (missile jammers make missiles turn like torpedoes :p). And my personal Kestrel, with 10 space bombs, 15 torpedoes, 3 proton turrets, and 4 lightnings...ye'd best stay oot o' mah way, likkle Vette cap'n

The Kestrel, when outfitted with a jammer and an afterburner (both of which are dirt cheap)is quite capable of evading missiles and any other guided weapon. A properly outfitted Kestrel is much better than any other civilian ship and, in the proper hands, could take on any other ship in the game.

In my experience with Kestrels the handle ok and are kinda fast. Like every other ship in the game they are thousands of times better than the stock module. The Lightings, which, according to some, are the best fighters in the game, help out a lot. One on One with a Corvette AI, the Kestrel wins, because of the 1 on five matchup. A Kestrel without the Lightnings would be an even match to see. One on One souped up, it would boil down to the same thing. Which ship you think is better also depends on what you like. If you are good with a ship with moderate speed and is a Carrier, the Kestrel is better. If you are better with hit and run kind of things and like a faster ship, the Corvette is better. It just comes down to common sense and personal taste.

Now, if you want the best ship in the game, get the Rebel Destroyer.

The Rebel destroyer kills it! The kestrel is pretty good but the destroyer can have 4 turrets and can go faster than a corvette (I think. At leasy upgraded it can). Plus those torpedoes are handy for 'feds.

Corvette isn't bad either though, and the argosy is nice if way overpriced.

My favorite ship has always been the Corvette. Ever since I read that little story that comes with EV, I wanted one, and when I got it, I was satisfied. While I admit the Rebel Destroyer is a better ship, and I've certainly had my fun in the Kestrel, when I choose to fly, it'll be in a Corvette.

Missiles don't hit my Kestrel, especially if try the age old "evade the crocodile" trick (shift your ship slightly either way, the faster missile loses track a bit).

Let's face it. AI against AI is about equal to player against player, and AI against AI, the Kestrel kicks in the Corvette. If you try and take on a Kestrel in a Corvette (say my Kestrel and your Corvette), you'll be stardust on the first pass. I'm not saying I'm good, I'm saying my ship is.

As for the cost, would you please stop blaming the ship here. It's not the Kestrel's fault if Atinoda sells it for a lot more than it's worth. And to note, by the time you are allowed the Rebel Destroyer, they should really give it to you for near free. Oh wait a second, they do...

EV costs aren't necessarily as real as they seem.

In conclusion, four stars to the Kestrel, four stars to the Corvette, three stars to the Rebel Cruiser, and five stars to the Rebel Destroyer.

And of course, a full five for my pet Lightning!
