    • BfS III Discussion III

A couple of points regarding this proposed alliance:

      1. The Pirates were not an organized government in the game, just bands of outlaws. They controlled a couple of stations, but had no form of organized government. The Aliens would have no reason to negotiate with them, and no way of knowing they are organized now.

      2. The Dreden may or may not know about the HC, but it is immaterial. When they left, the Confederacy was in power, so either way they expect a unified human government in the Milky Way. They may know of the power shifts based on intelligence gathered from the Aliens, who certainly know about it. Neither the HC nor the pirates has a clue about them, though.

SO, basically, I don't really think the alliance works. Anyone want to try to shoot holes in my logic? I'll be happy to deflect them back at you if you do... 😛

And Skyblade, presuming UE Crusader returns, he would be a Fleet Admiral? I'm guessing based on his promotion at the end of BfS II.

t2k, if you want to register for the webboard, see spl_cadet's link in the previous topic. If you meant register for the webstory, you are. I'll go ahead and tenatively give you JChuck's fleet. Let me know if and how you wanted it modified. Keep in mind the total cost can't exceed 600 million, and no more than 200 million on any ship type.

You don't have the technology to do that 😛

      Nice, creative try though.

    • I've been trying to stay out of this discussion about the Alien / Pirate alliance, but the absurdities compel me to post.

      1. Whether or not we pirates consitute an "organized government" is immaterial. We have been "organized" since the latter stage of BFS II. Asriel, as our Leader, can ally us with whomever he sees fit.

      2. As a BFS II player -- with a character who returns for III -- I seem to remember Aliens from ... The Battle of Levo, for one. To say we have no knowledge of the Aliens nor them, us, is absurd "revisionist history." (Mac recently told me II ended only six months ago -- in story time. I think even some of us pirates can remember that far back.)

      3. I am really getting tired of the human governments "assuming" so much about us. You don't determine our fate; we do. And if this "You're a pirate. You automatically lose." attitude persists, I WILL "take my ball and go home." I am competitve and don't join games to lose.... (I thought we dealt with this "attitude" thing back in BFS III Discussion I. (I was assured of equanimity then, which is why I have stuck around through all the numerous delays for III. I hope I have not wasted my time.)

Stop trying to "rig" the story before it even starts.

Cadet, I REALLY like that image you recently sent me. Good stuff. (Now keep quite about it until it is time....)

I know I'm not involved in this, but just a second.

What are the "Pirates" in EV? Simple. They are the %age of people in normal worlds that aren't trustworthy, and couldn't fit in anywhere. So they go off and plunder and are generally bad people. The idea of "organised pirates" is pretty stupid. Pirates are NOT the type of people who make governments. Nor can an "organised pirate" group make an alliance, as it's all the personal opinion of one pirate. A pirate is an anarchist. Simple as that. You can't take pirates and not have them be anarchists. Nor can you take pirates and stop them from being pirates. Pirates are pirates. Pirates are anarchists. What's the problem here?

...this happened in Golden Horizon too, with the Renegade Alliance, and with some other things. To note, "pirates always lose" isn't exactly true. In fact, it most definately isn't.

    • Okay, what I think about this is, any group of people, no matter how uncivilised, can back a cause. It is not completely out of the question that a decent amount of pirates decided to work together, calling themselves "freedom fighters." In EV, ther were definately pirate organizatiions, what about the T.A.G. mission? Also, what about these coordinated pirate attacks that happen in EVO? If the pirates want their own government, it should be fine. The only problem that I could see is that while the government could last for a while, it is common knowledge that pirates are cutthroats, and I think it would occur very soon that the pirates would start quarrelling. Even so, there are ways to "control" theses things, and I think that the pirate "leaders" can realistically try to simulate a pirate government. Just because I'm backing up pirates here doesn't mean that I wont rip them to shreds in battle though. 😉

    • Mac, I just thought you should be acknowledged for the very thorough "Homepage" for the story. Well done -- in very many categories, especially Maps and Shipyards.

(BTW you got "Lieutenant" spelled correctly in the Dreden Ranks ... but you typo-ed in the HC Ranks.)

(Edit) The only problem I forsee is ... once the story begins, how the heck are you gonna be able to keep up with the updates AND play??? (Oh. I guess since you are HC -- I hope it drives you batty! Bwa-ha-ha! (I mean...) "Arrgh!") (/Edit)

(KK jumps over to Homepage to see which team Azdara is on. Rats! The likelihood of KK meeting Azdara head-to-head is pretty slim....)

Thanks for the balanced perspective, Azdara. "If" our fleets do meet -- you will bleat like sheep. (I'm such a poet!)

    • I say if any new alliances take place, two ships of the two governments must be in the same system at any point in time, and then the treaty will be intact if they both succesfully make it back to their homeworlds. Just my 2 cents...

As I see it, the T.A.G. mission was simply "come with me, we'll kill 'em all, and get lots of booty."

You have a very good point. Unfortunatly, the pirates in EV are different from those here. We are assuming that they were a group of traders who didn't want the war, as it would propose danger to their fleets. The Rebels sided with them, but then backstabbed the Renegades by joining forces with the HC and dubbing them "Pirates." Well, the media was probably responsible for the name, but the point remains that the Pirates are an organized goverment, and they only attacked HC and trading vessels after they were branded as crimminals by the Galactic public.

I agree. However, I think it should be core-world, not the actual homeworld, and that each gov. should only have to bring one ship. Maybe they have to stay alive for 1 page... Has (B(I)anyone(/B)(I) seen our Emperor? We need that "secret language," and fast! RC, post a Battle.net time!

You're missing the point. Sure, you may know the Aliens, but do they know you? Not necessarily. All the Aliens remember about the pirates is that there was a fleet involved at Levo, using somewhat different technology, which got its arse kicked by rebel council's fleet. How do they know that you are in fact a separate government? How would they have contacted you since then? Why would they in the first place, when your first encounter was decidedly hostile, and they likely don't recognize you as a separate government? If you can satisfactorily answer those questions, I'll consider this more.

Jimbob, your suggestion about treaties is a bit farfetched. I think fleets should be in the same system, but there is a thing called electronic data transmission to get the treaty back to the homeworld.

    • Thank you Mac. Skyblade- I think we all ahve observed the " ;)s" in our posts, so we can assume that all of them were completly irrational, bunk, and deragatory insults that were meant as jests, correct? 🙂 And, as you said, Mac, you are text on a screen. Pressing "Submit Reply" does not, in any way, shape, or form, demonstarate an act of courage. 😛

Mac, we just make fun of you because you're so serious. I try to be a balance of both "sides" on the boards, but you (like many others I have observed) go crazy and indulge in things that you wouldn't normally indulge in. In your case, it's seriousness. For Moose, it's chopping off my head w/ an axe. I do admit, I'm a bit of a nerd in real life, though my sense of humor at ASW is the same in RT.

And Skyblade: If you're afraid of the old Lyra, then check out (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/webboard/Forum28/HTML/000011.html")this(/url) thread. Mac, I was defending you, so you might wanna take a look as well. Does anybody mod those FAQ's? Cuz if they do, /me is dead for sure...
