    • Some Questions From a Newcommer

Hello All. I played EV at my school on their crappy macks and liked the game a hell of a lot soo eventually i got an emulater to run it on my pc. I have executor which only has about 20 days left on it.
SO my first question what is the best free emulater for mac that will run EV and EVO?

Executor cannot run EVO because of application memory and the keys to give more to the program are disabled in the demo.

Now currently I am playin EV and I like it a hell of a lot. I have a corvetter which I like with my Missles, Torpedos, and Hawk fighter bay. I also have 2 lightning escorts most of the time because I always attack pirates. They have 3 defenders come after me right after I jump into every system and my lightnings and Hawks kill them. I favor the Rebels and have been doing missions for them for a while. I have the cloaking device And

IF i buy a different ship could I get the cloaking device again?

Because I want a Rebel Cruiser Eventually but Im kind of just wandering looking for important Rebel missions. I did the Lunar Commando team. I brought back a weapons cache and delivered two weapons bundels but then the last two were too far away and I couldnt get there in time.

SO what is the next mission and where? I want to do missions for them but IM just wandering around trying to find one. Iv'e gone to CLotho a zillion times and the same for Plashlife.

I ask again what is the best emulater for MAC for free because I want to play EVO REAL BAD it looks sooo cool. When I try to play it on executor it shows frame by frame about every 5 seconds. HELP ME PLEASE!!!!!!

    • I dont know about emulaters but unless im mistaken you cant buy rebel ships.

If you haven't already, I'd like to suggest that you read the (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/webboard/guidelines.html")web board guidelines(/url), as they explain a number of things that may save you a fair bit of trouble, including karma, a system which confuses many people at first.

I suggest you try WarBeast's guide to emulating the Mac. I know people who have used it quite succesfully.

The cloaking device should carry over to your new ship automatically. The same is true of the tractor beam and particle beam cannon if you have them. However, you cannot buy rebel warships, including the cruiser, until you complete one of the alien mission strings. I should also note that many skilled pilots consider the rebel destroyer a superior ship to the cruiser.

The next mission is probably the string to find the aliens. If you're not getting it, your legal status and combat rating might not be high enough. You should try destroying more enemies of your government - pirates are the easiest.

    • Ok, a couple things to lay down here:
Macs don't suck, no matter what the circumstance. Yes, if you buy a new ship you will keep the cloak. But since you are already in the best civilian ship there is no need to. Also, The rebel destroyer is better than the Cruiser.

The next mission you have is the Astrodyne Listening post mission, which starts at...Atropos? I'm not sure but I think it's a station. Anyway, you get the tractor beam from that mission and that helps a lot for the next: Eliminate the aliens. That starts in any rebel system I beleive, and when you finish it you get to buy your rebel ship of choice on Palshife.

About EVO, it is a low quality TC (total conversion) plug for EV. If you really want it, go to Yahoo! and search for Basalisk or something along those lines, it is another emulator.

Welcome to the boards, and enjoy your stay.

Well at my school the macs did suck. They were like Macs from like 92. The ones now are decent my problem with them is many games arn't mac compatable. And why is a destroyer better? IT should have less sheilds and doesnt have a fighter bay.

      ------------------

    • Oh boy. The destroyer is better because it's faster, has torps and missles, can be upgraded easily, and is generally for a more hit and run style of flying. And if you get sheild enhancers, it's sheilds are just as good.

I have still yet to find out why so many people on these boards like the Destroyer so much. There's just no reasoning with them. 😉

As for Macs, the old ones sucked and they cost waaaay to much. New Macs are great in everything except that they don't have as much software or as many games as PCs.

The Alien is extremely easy, you just have to know the technique. To fight it, you need a Deadly rating and probably Upstanding Citizen. For the Tractor Beam (a big help against Aliens), You need the Astrodyne missions Jimbob mentioned. The major Rebel missions are all available at any Rebel planet, IIRC, you just need the proper ratings. For now, keep killing Pirates, and check the bars on Rebel planets frequently.

Modern Macs are faster and easier to use than most PCs, but you do lose some programs. Overall, I find it a good trade. Emulators to run PCs on the Mac tend to be better than the Mac emulators to the best of my knowledge, too.

The Rebel Destroyer is better because of it's maneuverability. The Cruiser just isn't quick enough to fight effectively. The shielding and weapons are certainly good enough. The Corvette is better than the Kestrel for similar reasons.

Many people prefer the Destroyer because of its cheap price and speed/accel when its compared with a Confed Frigate or even either Cruiser.

I personally get into a Rebel Cruiser as my final ship for the alien missions.

FIGHTER BAY. its all in the fighter bay if its "just as good" then ill take the cruiser because it has a fighter bay.

The Mantas in that bay won't do much for keeping you alive in combat, though... You can always put a Hawk Bay on the Destroyer if you must have fighters, but fighters in general in EV don't do a lot.

FIGHTERS I MUST HAVE FIGHTERS WHO CARES how strong they are. psh psh psh and they launch and i say come back and they come back into my ship. THEy r the best! I dont care their health. I dont use my hawk fighters for anything above argosys.

      ------------------

    • Then get a Hawk Bay on your Destroyer if you're just obsessed with Fighters to that degree. The Destroyer is significantly better than the Cruiser, it's not "just equal."

You are mistaken, sorry to say. You just have to do missions to get em

    • In case you haven't found a new emulator...

Basilisk, which I think is a free 68k emulator, can be found (url="http://"http://www.uni-mainz.de/~bauec002/B2Main.html")here(/url). If you need help with the setup, I think there's a link to a guide at the bottom of that webpage.

    • Welcome to the boards, Kermmy.

I just thought of this. Maybe the Cruiser/Destoyer argument is similar to the Mac/PC argument. I guess it just depends on how you are "wired". (I've given up trying to understand why people prefer PCs. I hate mine ... even though I must use it. Most of my work is done on my MAC and transferred to the (Yuck!) PC for final form.)

Regarding the problem you had with missions being too far away:

      1. Try jumping through as many systems as you can (on those missions) without landing. Landing adds days to your travel.
      2. (This one is expensive, but it works.) Certain ships take fewer days to jump from system to system than others. If I want the fastest ship with the largest fuel capacity, I (Gulp!) take my 'Vette to the Shipyard and buy a Scoutship. I lose credits on the deal, but I can accomplish the mission with the fast Scout.
(And I replenish my credits after regaining a 'Vette by "looting the looters." I go to (NGC-)1592, near Pirates Cove; or 5465, off Spica; or 6762, off Sirgil; or 8113, off Lethe ... and steal credits from the plentiful pirates in those systems. IMHO, this is the fastest way to build up your credits until you can dominate systems.)

      Have fun!

PC are preferred because there are a hell of a lot more games and programs for it. Whats the point of owning a mac when there are no programs to run on it?

And why the hell would u sell a corvette for a scout? U cant loot when u have no fire power. Keep the vett!

Almost all the software I've ever needed is available for Macintosh, and what isn't I can run through Virtual PC. Actually, much of the software I rely upon isn't even available for Windows.
