Defenders Rule
I am always a fast fiset man New Horizon's Chaos, Frozen Heart's Tachyoic fighter ans S-Fighter, EVO's Azdara but most of all the defender. Youu can Monty Python and take out a confed cruiser and it's fighters once you have all the speed upgrades, missile jammer a ramscoop, armour, a cloak, a tractor beam and a particle beam.

Undercover of cloak AWoohahD's upgraded defender enters null space and sneaks up on Cap'n Redeye's Cruiser. He decloaks and skillfully avoiding proton fire beams the confes fighters to slag in seconds the defender fights on it's tri-lasers firing until they overheat and the fuel taks nealy drained AWoohahD gives a final blast of the Particle beam leaving the cruiser disabled, helpless in space after stealing the ship's fuel the defender cloaks, never to be seen again.

My vote goes to the Rapier. Sheilds over speed, baby!

But, the Clipper is the best! You know the Artemus group mission? The end one with all the pirate Kestrals you have to beat? I did that in my good ol' reliable Clipper! I had no escourts, and I never used the Monty Python either! Just my Proton cannons, Proton turret, and javalin rockets! And! I never used a cheat! Just upgraded it, practiced, and killed! In fact, I took over Mars once with that ship! It was kick butt!

I've never played M&D;, no. But regardless, ships and things from plugs of any kind are usually not considered in things like this unless specifically stated otherwise. At least, not very seriously considered. It's also annoying since no one else has a clue what this "Aurora" thing is, and since you don't exactly have to work to claim to have it on a web board.

I know I've already voted, but one more thing - in a rapier, ditch the missiles, and load torpedoes. A properly used torpedo is a wonderful thing, and it's still my favorite weapon. Say for instance you want to disable a Confed VIP transport: fire 1 torpedo. Ship is disabled. Meanwhile you can go kill the escorts with your guns.

Now, you have a Bulk Freighter? (Can you say, "Diphidian missions"?) Fire 2 torpedoes. Ship is disabled.

Torpedoes are so long range you can fire from and reasonable range, and let the torp HAWK the target - (Home All the Way and Kill).

Anyway, lightnings don't have torpedoes.

I don't normally fly fighters, I consider my 450 AU Rebel Destroyer about as fighter-ish as I like to go. However, there are some ships I would like to avoid.
Therefore my vote goes to the rapier.
Rapier - Not only does it pack a heavy punch, it has a fair amount of room for upgrades.
Gunboat - I hate fighting this thing, if you are not careful, those heavy rockets will tear you apart. The swarm factor is also a pain.
Lightning - It is weak but still a pain.
Manta - A super Defender, this ship has Defender like speed with more firepower.
Patrol Ship - Weaker than the Manta in my opinion.
Defender - I have no fear for this meak little ship. However, I do respect those who attempt to climb into this rust bucket.
