Ambrosia has an IRC server, at irc.ambrosia.net (right guys? I can never remember whether the irc server is at .net or sw.com...). The main channel is #ev3, which is theoretically dedicated to talking about Nova. In reality, don't expect to talk about anything related to EV in the slightest there. You may have better luck on #ev, if anyone goes there these days.

Correction: You will never see one from Ambrosia. It is possible that Helian Wars or some other person's pet project will work someday, though I wouldn't put too much faith in those. But, as they say, never say never (oops, I just said it twice ).

Personally, I wouldn't dump the Missiles, but you should definitely have fewer Missiles and more Torpedoes. Also, get a second Torpedo Launcher. On large ships that have the space, you should always have two launchers for Missiles and/or Torpedoes, whatever it is your preference to carry. On big ships, Torpedoes tend to be more important, since they do twice the damage. The only real advantage Missiles have on large ships like the Kestrel is that they can be used effectively against fighters, and fighters tend not to be as big a threat to cruisers.
Finally, welcome to the boards. A few words on board etiquette:
It's generally better to reply to multiple posts with one (as I've done here) than to make a whole string of posts. Sometimes you can just address a part of your post to a person by adding their name in, or you can quote manually without hitting the reply button. If you look at the tags around a post you're replying to (while editing the post), you'll see ( quote) and ( /quote) tags around the quoted section, without the spaces I added. You can use those to quote manually in the same way that the board does. For a more in-depth explanation of UBB Code, look (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/webboard/ubbcode.html")here(/url).
If you haven't I suggest reading the (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/webboard/guidelines.html")Webboard Guidelines(/url). They explain a lot of board policy, and reading them will allow you to avoid the definition newbie question "What is karma?" or at least make you sound intelligent about it if you have to ask for clarification.
Also, please don't take any of this as me saying that you've been bad - for a newbie, your behavior has really been excellent. Just thought a couple of pointers from a more experienced member might be helpful.
