      In EV - and EVO I believe - the standard unit for measuring cargo and weaponary is tons. But a ton is 2,000 pounds, and that's a measurement of weight, not volume. A ship can hold x amount of tons of cargo? What if its really really large cargo, but very light? Or very small and very heavy? Shouldn't it be a measurement of volume (ie the space in the cargo bay that it takes up)?

      Maybe the ship can only carry x amount of weight? But that still doesn't address the question of a large large item that weighs very little.

      Games are not real. They are meant to be fun. Reading into them, or analyzing them, enhances the experience. A game is like a book. You read (play) it, have fun while doing so and later on will want to analyze it. It's part of the experience; to look at it different ways and try to understand it. Do you remember in school when you read a book, and then do a lot of work on, to try to learn what it was all about? Or what the author (programmer) was trying to get at?

      The programmer meant to create something that people would have fun with. It's not like some great work of art, or wonderful literature. It's a game, for crying out loud. It wasn't intended to be analyzed, it just ruins the game. When you really think about it, NONE of it makes sense. So just let it be.

      What is this board for, then? I thought it was supposed to be for discussion of and things pertaining to the game Escape Velocity. According to you, we should just play the game and then forget about it altogether.

      The only thing I never got about tonnage was, in EVO, the fact that passengers weigh 2 to 3 tons. that's when I realized there was something wrong with the cargo measuring system.

      Matt Burch has stated on the EV Nova board that the tons in Escape Velocity are not standard tons, but rather displacement tons.
